I’d pay $63 to see Carlos Mencia’s head on a pike.
There has to be several youtube clips of him. Watch his dreadful crap and judge for yourself.
FTR, I saw him and thought the warm up act was way funnier.
Just search for “Carlos Mencia joke steal” on Youtube to get a bunch of examples. Here’s an especially good one about Joe Rogan confronting Mencia on stage about it. Even if he didn’t steal jokes, Ned (his real first name) is just not that funny on his own, and certainly not worth $63.
In my opinion, he’s not worth 63 cents. I find him unbearable.
Obama must like him. Have you seen the promos on The Comedy Channel?
It’s your money, so I have no idea if it is worth $63 of your dollars to go see him.
Maybe; but Obama’s been around for a lot of talk show hosts; Jay, Conan, (fist day he started prez said some things), I think he did Colbert and Stewart, right?
I would point out that the Mexican Peso uses the same symbol as the Dollar to denote its currency.
So, he *may *be worth $63
Oops, meant to say first day conan stated tonight show.
I know he did Stewart – not sure about Colbert. I guess there’s no difference, except that the promo is advertising. Obama didn’t do promos before appearing on the other shows. I have no problem with it, but it was jarring, maybe even a bit tacky.
I’ll admit freely that I like Carlos Mencia. I saw his show last year and loved it. I think I paid $40 or so, and I thought it was worth every penny. I really don’t get how it’s “cool to hate Carlos”. The acts he brought with him were hilarious and he was hilarious. He was signing autographs and taking pictures with people before the show and afterwards stayed until the last person who wanted to meet him got to.
I’m utterly convinced by the videos that Rogan has proved that Mencia steals jokes. You can see it on his face at the end that he’s beaten and he’s internally admitted to himself that he steals, but that he can’t say it publicly.
It’s not so much the stealing, as I’m sure it’s happened many times, but the passionate lying about it that has turned me off him forever (not that I ever watched him before).
yeah, I kind of agree.
I think the problem is that comedians can’t copyright a joke (AFAIK). There is also a huge difference between stealing a schtick and jokes. A schtick is a persona, an attitude that many have. Jokes are personally insightful examinations of the human condition.
I disagree heartily. Stand-up comedy is one of the purest art forms around. One man (typically), one microphone, attempting to elicit a single human emotion. There is no question as to whether or not he fails. People laugh or they don’t. This is why comedians take such umbrage when others steal their jokes. They spent months in front of crowds getting booed to perfect it, then some douche comes in and steals it.
As for Mencia stealing, the best example I’ve seen:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCixAktGPlg
It’s also a great example of why his delivery is so annoying. He does a halfway decent job building up the intensity of the joke (still not very good though), but after the punchline at the end he just starts screaming into the microphone. Obnoxious.
He might have a touch of Dane Cook’s Disease.
That’s all theoretical. The vast majority of comedians are not transcending that. Even Chris Rock is cribbing old material at this point.
Hmmmm…. I’ll give you three bucks. Three and a quarter, tops.
Here is Joe Rogan who is a lot funnier than Carlos Mencia ripping him apart.
I’m not a fan of Rogan, but he’s right. When I saw this, My Rogan-respect was at it’s ‘peak’.
Edit: But yes; He is a lot funnier than Carlos Mencia.
