Why, oh, why is Carlos Mencia still on the air?

I watched this show the first night it was on. He spent the first half of the show in an anti-Muslim rant, justifying it by saying “Oh, it’s okay because blacks and hispanics had to go through it, too.” Then he goes on and makes more unfunny jokes, and I happily change the channel. A few weeks later, I decide to give it another shot. Maybe he’s changed his material up a little bit and gotten a sense of humor. Nope, not at all. I keep seeing clips from it on Comedy Central, and they’re still not funny. Most of his jokes are either tired stereotypes, or the same joke everyone else has thought of and told countless times over. The only reason I can think they keep him on is to have an “ethnic” face on now that Dave Chapelle is gone. I can think of alot funnier “ethnic” faces they could give shows to, though. Please Comedy Central, let Mencia go. Please?

::Shrug:: I saw one episode and thought it was absolutely hilarious. It was the one where they did the CSI China spot.

I always forget when it’s on, but I thought it was side splitting. It ain’t PC though, that’s for sure!

Yeah… better comedians have done that and still not made it funny.

I just can’t stand this guy. His “I’m not PC! And I can say this because I’m Latin!” shtick is just immature and boring. People have been doing this kind of anti-PC stuff since the term was invented, and it wasn’t any more clever then.

I haven’t seen his TV show yet, but I’ve heard him on the radio numerous times, and he’s usually been hilarious.

Maybe he’s crossed the line in the meantime, or maybe the OP is oversensitive.

Eh, I like it. It’s not revolutionary or anything, but parts of his stuff are funny. His stand-up bit can be damn funny. I hate PC shit, so when a guy just says fuck it I’m OK with it. It’s not always funny just cause it’s un-PC, but I’m sick of people getting bent out of shape over it. It’s comedy for god’s sake.

Pryor, Murphy, and probably a hundred other guys were rabidly un-PC and they were funny. I’m not saying he’s in their league, but I’m ok with a guy making his living trying to be funny offending the stuffed shirts.

If he’s on CNN, yeah it’s dumb, Jesse Jackson specifically, but for Comedy Central it works. He might be unfunny, but he’s not unfunny because he’s anti-PC.

It’s not that his un-PC act offends me, it’s that he seems to rely too much on being un-PC, and not enough on making jokes that are funny.

Bingo.

Honestly, I think you’re busy being distracted by the fact that he’s being un-PC and not noticing the humor.

I’m not going to sit here and call the guy genious, or even the next Dave Chapelle, but in his short time he’s been on there’s been some damn funny stuff. Granted, most of it has been stuffed into the commercials, which shows how simplistic it is, but he is funny while he’s being un-PC.

There’s no doubt that 80% of his schtick is making race jokes. If you don’t find the un-PC stuff funny and want him to spend more time on other kinds of jokes, then I suppose you’re just not his audience.

When’s Lewis Black getting his own show, anyways?

Come on, the guy was making math jokes the other night that were cracking me up. I think he’s seriously funny much of the time.

I like him. I don’t watch the show that often because I’m asleep or doing something else, but I like it.

My favorite skit in his stand up was about being an Honduran but called Mexican everywhere… except in Miami, where he’s Cuban.

His standup routine has some funny jokes (“in NYC I’m Puerto Rican, in TX I’m Mexican, in FL I’m Cuban,” etc.), but I don’t think he’s cut out for a recurring TV show. I turned the first episode off after five or ten minutes of “listen here, Ahmed…” and haven’t been compelled by any of the commercials to give it another shot.

Same here, except I gave it about two minutes.

I didn’t care for his Comedy Central Presents set, either. I hate when comedians try to preach to me. Just tell a joke, motherfucker. And when he dropped the mic at the end of his set? Cornball city.

He’s a bit hit and miss, but sometimes he’s downright hilarious. Which is a whole lot more than you can say for Adam Corolla’s show that follows the Daily Show.

I like both Carlos Mencia and Adam Carolla. To me, Carlos is a hispanic version of Dave Chapelle. I like Adam Carolla because I can relate to him being basically just a lazy guy. Also, I think his promo bit about crapless squirrels vs. horses was funny.

I caught this show just after he made a math joke and missed it. Having a math degree myself, I look for this kind of stuff. Can someone please replay the joke for me?

My guess is that the only reason Carlos Mencia has a show is because Chappelle’s not doing season three, and you can only rerun two seasons for so long.

I had to suffer through a couple episodes while working in a bar last summer. Gad, the guy is just pathetic. Not a single thing in there that’s recognizable as a joke. It’s ridiculous . The sales pitch is that his offensive and un-PC approach to comedy is a breath of fresh air. This is a code phrase meaning that he makes the same jokes as the other 673,532,256,902,131 comedians whose offensive and un-PC approach to comedy is a breath of fresh air. And it’s not as if any of the jokes were funny to begin with.
