Is EW&F's Reasons a good wedding song?

Because I have a TON of CDs at work, someone asked me if I have Earth, Wind and Fire’s Reasons. She wanted to copy it because a friend of hers wanted to use it as her first dance. I do have it and did lend it, but then I started thinking: Isn’t this song about a one night stand? Not a good song for a wedding dance if it is?

Then again, EW&F’s lyrics sometimes don’t make much sense to me.

I just read the lyrics, and I’m taking it as a song about a couple that has a series of one-night stands.

I’d put it in the “lousy wedding song” category.

Holy cow, what an inappropriate choice.

Poorly-chosen wedding songs are an American tradition! How many weddings have featured “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton (or Whitney Houston), which is very clearly about a break-up? Or “My Heart Will Go On” – all about carrying on after the death of a loved one? Or “Every Breath You Take” – an extremely romantic song about obsessively stalking someone?

Our reception didn’t have music and dancing, which is good because my husband suggested AC/DC’s “Big Balls” as a first dance song.

Ok, let’s spin this. He loves her even if their marriage lasts only one night, it was worth it. The reasons he loves her aren’t clear, he just knows that he does. And forever.

I think they should use “Lust For Life.” It’s nice and peppy, and if Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines can manage to ignore the fact that the lyrics are about heroin addiction, why can’t the people at the wedding?

Oh, you just know that they really want to dance to Warrant’s Cherry Pie.
