I hope this link works. If not, help is greatly appreciated!
I mean this mostly as a joke, since it is likely only coincidence (rather than synchronicity) that the update on Newman - - so short after Hurricane Katrina - - is likely only happenstance:
Newman, who once ran for president on God’s instructions, angrily declared that this shabby treatment was going to get God really PO’ed. “I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if this does not result that God will place misery upon the state of Mississippi… I can see the handwriting on the wall and the people of Mississippi had better wake up.”

I mean… retribution took ten years - but it got there, right?
God has said wierder and apparently done wierder in Biblical times, so there is nothing to actually disprove that this was an Act of God. Except for common sense maybe, but who needs that…
My best theory on the matter is that this was a disturbed man who could predict the future, but became overwhelmed with greed and lust and the gold-bug, and ruined his own future, while still seeing the ruin of others’ futures.
According to the Baptists (and other various denominations), we have more problems than this in Mississippi regarding God’s wrath. Our legislature just OK’d letting casino’s rebuild 800 ft from the water’s edge, instead of right on the water. It seems that floating casinos are not sinful, but those just near the water are sinful. [sup]Go Figure![/sup]
The Hurricane(s) cannot possibly be God’s wrath on Mississippi. If God is angry at someone, then it must be the entire Gulf Coast. This is not impossible, but there are too many good people around here. Maybe it was just a couple of Hurricane’s and that Newman guy is just a crackpot.

My post was only meant in a “light-hearted” manner w/ respect to the classic column from Cecil; at least, as “light-hearted” as one can be in regards to the terrible suffering and property damage recently experienced by folks in both Mississippi & Louisana (sp?).
Come on everybody, this is 2005. Can’t we get past all the silly superstition and belief in things that don’t exist? For the last time, There is NO SUCH PLACE AS MISSISSIPPI!

If a lot of folks believe in a god, then it will attract that god. That is why Mississippi is taking such a hammering, wereas much more relatively godless areas do not attract such a god, and therefore do not have to suffer such god caused disasters.
