Is GWB a Freemason?

And so what if he was? I hear all kinds of mysterious things about the Freemasons but I’ve yet to see anything concrete about what exactly it is that they do or what they’re for. There doesn’t seem to be very much to the organization, really.

So, in short, what’s the deal with Freemasons?

According to this freemason site…he isn’t…

Am I the only one that finds it amusing that someone called Scientologist is asking about the Freemasons on this message board? Not that there’s anything wrong with it, I just chuckled.

GW was a Skull & Boner.

Supposedly, during initiation, one has to masturbate in a coffin, or some such.

I read it in a conspiracy book.

Saltire, no, you are not alone in your amusement.

Don’t get Jack Chick started on this topic.

Aren’t the Masons now more of social club than anything?

Two people I admire in history-King Aleksandar of Yugoslavia and Aleksander Kerensky were Masons.

No matter how hard I try, I just break up imagining GW doing that

The Freemasons are not so obscure at all; they’re not on the news permanently, and they are a bit hesitating about publishing internal data, but they are now much more open than they used to in earlier times when they had to face prosecution from various sides.
They are basically a “brotherhood” (women are not allowed there, although some female lodges have been founded recently) that supports and advances tolerance, humanity and rights of the individual. They’re not a religion, and they especially do not engage in worldwide conspiracies.

Check an officiel Freemason website for details, eg
http://www.freimaurer.org/index1e.htm (English version of the official United Grand Lodges of Germany site)

(And no, I myself am not Freemason).

I think the general consensus is that the Freemasons are either a generically theistic social and charitable men’s organization with a few weird rituals

or

They’re an EVIL secret group out to DOMINATE THE WORLD!!!
