A couple weeks back, I had all sorts of trouble logging into my Hotmail account. Usually I would just get a white screen that eventually times out, and then my computer often got an error message or just froze. It finally worked itself out after a few frustrating days, and my account even got automatically upgraded to 250 megs! But now the same problem is back. I can’t even log into Hotmail, and I’m awaiting important information about a job I may be starting soon, and also communications with winners and prospective winners of my eBay auctions. Is anyone else having trouble with Hotmail, or is it just me?
I’ve been routinely experiencing problems with Hotmail for the past 2 or 3 weeks. I thought it was just the network, I’m not sure. I’d say wait a little while then try again. That’s about all you can do. When it doesn’t work for me, I usually wait an hour or so and then it’ll be OK.
I currently have no problem with hotmail. However, when they did the account upgrades, I had trouble logging in for a day or so. I believe this upgrade may be their response to the new Gmail that’ll be out soon and is already out on trial. Too many people would leave hotmail since you only got about 2Mb free until the upgrade. I was totally floored when I opened up my account and found 250Mb of storage.

Normally, I check my account once a day. I don’t remember the last time I had a problem getting to my account.
What is this 250mb storage you speak of and how come I am not getting it? I am still stuck on the measly 2mb. Will everyone recieve thsi extra storag espace or just random lucky people? I have a Gmail account, but don’t want to change my email address, and was just hoping that Hotmail would follow suit and upgrade their storage space…
To answer the OP, yes I have been haviong lots of trouble with my Hotmail account over the past week or two. I suspect I’m not receiving all the emails people send me…
Hotmail has been advertising for a while that they were upgrading all free accounts to 250 mb later this year, presumably to compete with Gmail. I had pretty much written it off as an empty promise until they finally bulked up my account last week. My brother’s also beefed up last week, although a friend of mine said he experienced the upgrade nearly a month ago. I assume Hotmail has several different servers and millions of accounts to upgrade, so I wouldn’t give up on them just yet.
Oh, I’m able to get into my Inbox again, whoopty-doo.
It seems to be taking them a long time to get around to all the accounts. There was a thread in GQ a week or two ago where a lot of dopers said their accounts had just been upgraded. Mine received the 250 megs weeks ago. Keep waiting, it should come.
BTW, does anyone know if there’s any pattern to the order they’re upgrading accounts? Oldest first maybe? Or is it just random?
My missus couldn’t access it last night - same symptoms as the OP. I then tried it and got in straight away. I noted that my server was ‘blabla.bay.hotmail.com’ and hers was ‘blabla.bay2.hotmail.com’. Prolly that. Nice of them to let everyone know! :rolleyes:
