Having just had my yahoo email hacked, I set up security questions and changed my password. Then I hear that someone with a Hotmail account had their security questions hacked and changed and had to get a new account. Is it possible to have a secure yahoo account? If so, how?
WAG: you and/or the person with the hotmail account you have heard of may well have accessed the account from a computer with a keylogger installed (either by a malicious person accessing the computer, e.g. at an internet café, or by malware). In that case all server-side security as well as encrypzed transmission over the Internet would have been useless.
So I just went in and changed my password again and it didn’t even ask me the security questions. Methinks it’s hopeless. Oh Mops - I haven’t gone online from any other computers, so it ain’t that.
Have you checked your computer for viruses, trojans, worms, trolls, SDMB Mods, cookies, etc? You need to verify for yourself that your Internet activity did not expose you to something else that caused a surreptitious download of a keylogger or other nasty that is reporting back your login details to someone else.
It’s possible if the service provider gives you an RSA token or something similar. Your log in credentials would be invalid 30 seconds after you use them.
Of course, that’s not likely to happen with a free email account.
