So i have had no issues logging into yahoo and my other accounts at home. However im currently at the airport right now and i actually had cleared my internet history before this. I log into my yahoo email and put in the password, and now it says i cannot log in unless i answer 2 security questions. I put the first answer right but the 2nd question im not sure what the answer is. I answered it few times but didnt went over 5 times b/c i know it would get my account locked.
It also gives me the option to call my voice number. The issue with this is the phone number is an old landline that i no longer use. Also it can’t receive sms messages or text messages b/c its a landline. And of course that phone number is no longer valid.
How am i suppose to log into my yahoo account now? Very frustrating b/c i needed to check some important emails and reply back to them but now i cannot do this since i have no idea why i have to answer these security questions. Again 1st question i know answer, 2nd question i don’t.
Can someone tell me how i can solve this problem asap? I need to check some email at airport right now and i cannot believe this is happening. Does it have to do with me clearing my internet browsing history or is it most likely me logging into my email at the airport and its my first time logging into it from it?
Can someone tell me the exact link to get help for this? Apparently now i can’t even answer the 2nd security question, its basically it contacting my voice number but that voice number is not valid anymore to me.
They have a toll free help number
Sounds like you got phished on a public computer.
Too late to help the OP with his most recent problem. But Pauly01, you recently asked about a password manager, and in that thread it was mentioned that you can also use your password manager (I think you were considering keepass) to store the answers to your security questions. If you had done that, then you wouldn’t have to remember the answers, keepass would have them for you.
Of course, it you were being phished, that would have been to your detriment.
What do u mean get phished? I used public wifi to try to log in. Can u get phished that way?
Okay heres a thing im a bit confused at. I could still log into my yahoo email in my iphone. Reason i think is b/c i never logged out of my email in yahoo in my iphone. Yes i know thats bad. But since i could do that in my iphone, can i change the security question or anything so i could log into my yahoo email in my laptop? And if so, how do i do this? I think just change the security question or the voice number that i have there?
Another thing. I tried to log into my facebook acct and it temporarily locked me out of my account b/c im logging into it from an unrecognized device. This happened with yahoo as well. Does that mean me deleting my entire web history in my laptop probably caused this? Or is the reason me logging into these sites with a different ip address as with the airport? Or is it combination of both?
Basically i had to name the ppl in my facebook acct pictures to get unlocked.
Thus is this me deleting my entire web history? Or me logging into these accts with a different ip address as in airport? Also heres another strange thing. When i logged into my yahoo email but couldnt log in, i then used my iphone and could log in b/c im always signed into yahoo. It did show me try to access my acct from an unknown device. Thing though is it mentioned this is in the Netherlands. I logged into it from the usa in an airport… however the time it said the person tried to log in… its same time as me logging in to yahoo email on laptop.
Can someone tell me what is the reason for this?
Public Wi-Fi has risks. This page lists some of the risks. The risks at an airport or other place is that you need to be sure that the Wi-Fi network you are connecting to is legitimate. For instance, the legitimate SSID might be ‘JFK Wi-Fi’ but someone could set up a hotspot called ‘Free Airport Wi-Fi’ and intercept data from people who mistakenly connect to it.
If you have a smartphone that you can use as a hotspot, you are better off using that to connect your laptop to the internet, or better yet just use your phone to check your emails. Cellular data is likely more secure than public Wi-Fi.
At any rate, once you get back into your Yahoo account you might want to change your password and provide new answers to your security questions.
Yahoo does check with you if you log in via a new connection for security reasons, so the likelihood is that it was exactly as you think. It is possible to be phished via that mechanism, but if you went to your normal login URLs it’s unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely.
Seriously hope things work out for you Pauly. I can imagine how frustrating that can be.
If you’ve the inclination, would you mind sharing the nature of that second security question? No need to include your answer of course. Just curious.
