Is it EVER going to rain again? Mother fuck!

Heat index. Pretty complex stuff (and damn close to witchcraft.)

I feel ya there.

It is currently 106 F with 14% humidity here. So, it does feel sticky and hot out./QUOTE]

Man, you got some big balls telling everybody about the 14% humidity. When I hear somebody from back east complaining about the temperature I don’t say a word. Because I know just how it will go. After I tell them it’s 110 they’ll ask
“What’s the humidity?”

I’ve forgotten what rain looks like.

(Here’s a chart of our recent rainfall amounts: http://home.att.net/~station_climo/LACV0607.GIF)

At least we get nice cool mornings by the beach. Actually, the weather’s been pretty amazingly great so far this summer.

Says someone who clearly does NOT live in either Valley.

That’s because humidity makes it so much worse. I’ve spent time in the desert in the summer. Wear a hat, keep hydrated, find some shade now and then. It’s bad, yes, but at least the air is dry enough to keep your body’s evaporative cooling system working. And shade really helps. You can step from the blazing heat into a patch of shade, and it immediately feels a lot cooler. In high humidity, you sweat and sweat and sweat, but it never goes anywhere. It doesn’t evaporate. It soaks your clothes and stays on your body, where it simply warms up and acts as an insulator to keep body heat in. Shade doesn’t help. The air is just as hot and heavy and humid as it is in the sun. It’ll kill you.

We didn’t have much rain until the lawn mower broke down. Now we’ve had plenty of rain. To go with the long, long grass.

My advice: bust a belt on the lawn mower.

:smack: Why didn’t I think of that? We’ve been keeping all the canvas directors’ chairs we use for patio furniture out in the open, thinking that if we did, it couldn’t help but rain on them and ruin them. I guess we just weren’t taking it far enough!

I hear you, Ogre. I am in AL, too. My poor kids have been stuck inside, just staring at their empty inflatable pool that I cannot fill because we are having a drought. My car is filthy and our house is in desperate need of a pressure-wash. Our yard has been brown all summer because, frankly, two days a week just isn’t going to help at this point. At least it looks like it might rain today but I’m not getting my hopes up. I love the heat and humidity of AL but this is ridiculous.

Or hire a talented chalk artist to do a mural on your driveway. Instant rain.

Holy mother of god, it’s raining!

Obviously we’re not praying hard enough. tee hee

We rarely get rain here (Colorado) this time of year. Once August hits, it is 50/50 whether the next pecipitation we see is going to be rain or snow.

For the fifth afternoon in a row, we are getting a downpour. Boulder creek, which I drive over every day, is usually a trickle this time of year. It is still flowing healthily.

Worked for us… Praying for rainFlooding

I didn’t realize how long we’d been without rain- on Aug 1, we noticed a water spot on our ceiling. We called our Repair Guy, who fixed a leak in our roof. He’s going to paint the ceiling as soon as we’re sure the leak is totally fixed. Which requires it to rain. Which it hasn’t done here since July 31. We have two big, gorgeous dogwoods in our yard, and I’m afraid we’re going to lose them to the heat and lack of water.

Oh, and it got up to 100 every day this week, and we had jury trials, and the air conditioner in the courtroom was broken. Talk about some cranky freakin' jurors...

There was a terrible lightning storm in Montgomery late this afternoon/early this evening and it seemed as if it was going to rain buckets, but after about a 2 minute shower it made like Azrael and passed over. It is a few degrees cooler at least (80 by my outside thermometer, though it’s midnight here).

Proof that God hates Alabama!

And who could blame her? Perhaps she prefers rain dances or animal sacrifice.
