Is it feasible to disable post counts?

I’ve seen this sentiment expressed before, but I really can’t recall seeing the phenomenon in effect outside of when the occasional rerun makes their first one or two posts bitching about the moderators.

Why is that?

I like seeing post counts - it gives you an idea of how “vested” a poster is in the SDMB. Not necessarily social status, but it does convey the presumption of understanding of how the board works. There’s always an exception or two, but by and large it works.

Of course, you have guys like me that don’t post very often, but lurk a lot - good thing they have the registered date too!!!

Cheers!

I have found them useful in the past - pretty much for the reasons that Powers106 mentions, but also there was an instance when a returning troll registered under Grirnpixie (griRNpixie), which looks a lot like griMpixie, except the post count made it obvious.
Also, I’m much less likely to unquestioningly follow an off-site link posted by someone with only a handfull of posts under their belt.

Ah so Magnetout.

Ummm…yeah. Right.

I think we’re done here.
