Is it healthy to spend 15 hours a day on Straight Dope?

I want to get to 100,000 posts so I’ll be the undisputed number 1 Straight Doper of all time. I estimate it will take me all day, every day for the rest of my life. Do you concur?

Well, what’s my post count? (Hold on, let me post and check back).

ETA: OK, looks like almost 30K and I’ve been here for 14 years. So, at my current pace, that would take me about 45 years. I do spend a lot of time here, but nowhere near 15 hours a day every single day. I think if you spent 15 hours a day and posted regularly, without getting kicked off for post padding, I think you can hit 100K in 10 years easily. Was handy our most prolific poster? What was his post count and how long was he here?

Depends on how long you have left to live. If you spent 15 hours a day you should be able to easily make 150 posts a day. If I’m using those math things properly you could do it in 2 years. I can attest that it’s very easy if you don’t think about what you are posting or bother reading OPs closely.

Well, it looks like handy averaged just over 10 posts per day, for a total of 17493 posts in his 1719 days here on the Dope between 3/12/1999 and 11/25/2003. So, at that rate, we’re looking at almost 27 years. (Is there anyone who has a higher long-term posting rate?)

You’ll have to buy a membership, though, if you want to lord it over us. Guest accounts don’t show the number of posts. So don’t forget to budget for $15 per year starting a couple years out
ETA: Although with a lowly four-digit post count, you should probably just disregard everything I said…

Please show us the math, because I’m not seeing how you reached your conclusion.

Your average is 5.74. Mine is 9.4. Eliminating my nonsensical, inane, and idiotic posts my average would be the same as yours. I don’t recall any handy posts, but that’s an impressive rate if they were primarily valuable and/or interesting posts.

I have just over 20,000 posts and according to my stats I average a paltry 3.95 posts per day. If you posted just 20 times a day it would take you less than 14 years to get to 100,000 posts and we have people who have been here that long.

Up it to 30 times a day and it would only take you 10 years.

Most posts are pretty short and can be composed in just a few minutes, so you could probably write 30 a day in under two hours per day total, if you were really dedicated.

I have a little over 13 posts per day over just under 11 years, for a total of 53,000. That includes a period of two years or so when I didn’t post at all. Presumably I’ll be getting up into the OP’s range (and I’ve reported him, incidentally) in another 10 years.

Please do not pollute the board with pointless garbage just to get a high post count.

Take down the competition. Smart move.

You didn’t make me spit out my coffee, per se, but I might have dribbled a little on my shirt.

It’s healthier than smoking!

No. Post count will not make anyone the Number 1 Straight Doper of All Time. Quality, not quantity.

Welcome to the SDMB, other.

One word of advice. We tend to prefer quality over quantity.

Please note that the General Questions forum is for questions with factual answers. Please take some time and read the forum descriptions and the various stickies and FAQs available.

This thread seems to be somewhat of a continuation of the post count comments you made here:

As such, I think that it is best to just close this thread and advise you to take a closer look at what is acceptable here and what isn’t before posting again.
