I’m sure this was never going to be a fun war, but thus far I had not heard of any Balkan-esque ethnic cleansings or the like. I admit I have not been paying huge amounts of attention.
Yes, a passenger jet was shot down by the rebels. It is tragic, but in the end was an accident - an accident caused by giving morons anti-air weapons but not something the rebel government planned on doing.
Then a couple of days ago the rebels parade a bunch of POWs through town to be taunted, spat upon and otherwise humiliated in a rather blatant violation of the Geneva conventions. Sure, its not as bad as taking them into a field and shooting them, but it is still a violation of the POW’s rights. Moscow’s official reply seems to be “we dinnut see nuttin’ wrong”.
Now there is this. OK, if this woman is part of the Ukrainian forces it is even worse than the parade. If she is a spy then why is this the punishment?
I am hoping the pace of these abuses are not going to become the norm.
