Is it me? It's me, isn't it.

That’s just adorable. Can you come over to my house and slap yourself around for my entertainment?

Bloody hell. Do you believe that you are a good worker and can do that job or not? If you boss is mistaken in her evaluation of you (i.e.: that you are chasing away customers), why is it your responsibility to help her get rid of you? Some bitch is saying that you’re chasing away customers, and your boss believes them. And your solution is to knuckle under? Doesn’t it weigh heavily on your conscience that a former employer mistakenly thinks you’re a bad worker?

Your first responsibility as an employee is to yourself. Always. That’s why you have a job: to provide for yourself. Your mandates to work hard and do a good job for your employer simply reinforce your primary responsibility. Your boss is screwing you over, and you’re holding the screwdriver!

This is the complicated part. My boss told me that I am great at working in retail. This makes sense to me, because I love being a shopgirl. I love meeting new people, I love counting and pricing and ringing things through. I love dusting the racks and clothes hangers and taking care of the store.
My boss went on to say that I am just not cut out for working at this particular store, which I can understand. As a store that sells dance/gymnastics/skate wear, we sometimes know what the customer should buy, better than they do. I am not a pushy person and I resist telling people how they should spend their money. I think that decision should be up to the person holding the debit card. All of the “mistakes” I have made on the job (except two), have been because I was too timid to take control of the situation, because I didn’t feel it was my place.
None of this would be an issue if I worked in a regular clothing store, or a book shop, where people choose what they buy based on how much they like it, not because this is what the British Association of Teachers of Dance has decided their students should wear this year.

Really? I never thought of it that way before. Hmmm… ::pondering::
