I swear to god if I see one more perfectly normal, civil, happy-go-lucky thread hijacked for some asinine, irrelevant low-blow political potshot, I’m gonna scream.
Sorry I guess I hit submit sooner than I thought. Roger Thornhill’s post noting that Jimmy Stewart did not fake his service record, which has zilch to do with the thread.
Oh yeah? But Bush is a liar! And Kerry lied about going to Vietnam! And the CBS memos were really written by Karl Rove, who wants Bush to put all the homosexuals in concentration camps! John Edwards has PINWORMS! And Clinton did all that too, PLUS he got a blow job! Disagree? You’re an EVIL stoma-fucking pinko conservative lackey that HATES AMERICA and thinks the French are sexy!
Well, i like to think i’m a pretty smart guy, but i really don’t even quite get what roger thornhill was supposed to be saying in that post. Was it a reference to Bush? If it was, it was pretty oblique and hardly the sort of thing that sent the thread running off the rails.
Maybe we should ask him exactly what he meant.
:: Paging Roger Thornhill. Will Mr. Roger Thornhill please report to The Pit ::
Me, neither. Was he saying Bush faked his own records, or that they were faked out of necessity on Bush’s behalf, or that Bush’s records were faked because his character (allegedly) made it possible for his opponents to do so.
C’mon, rog, give us a clue!
Having said that, I think the OP has become somewhat overly sensitive to political hijacks. roger’s’s comment may have been a hijack attempt or just a random belittling thought, but either way it had no impact on the thread that I could see.
I totally agree with the OP. I’m really, really tired of getting half way through a fun thread in IMHO or MPSIMS and then somebody feels obligated to insert a political snipe at the Dems or Pubbies, thus hijacking the thread.
I can go to GD or The Pit if I want to participate in political discussions. You can start your own political thread in any forum you please. Are, say, 75 open threads with their subject centered around politics not enough for you?
I don’t mean to imply that he took the thread off course in any way. But I stay out of Great Debates, and political threads in the pit for a reason: I don’t wanna hear it. But seriously, there’s no thread that is safe anymore; even in GQ someone will make a quick barb, and slinking off sheepishly when the mods admonish them. The thread I indicated was just the most recent example, and I guess the proverbial “last straw” for me.
I had a faint urge to question whether yet another big company having layoff would hurt Bush’s chances for reelection in the Twinkie thread, but I resisted. I’m very proud of me.
No shit, and if we can make it through the next administration without someone dragging out bullshit that may or may not happened during the previous administration of some time back, I’ll be even happier.
