Is it possible...

TubaDiva, I know you’ll be crushed to hear this, but OgreFade’s most recent post, the one as The Urge, doesn’t appear in the scroll-down “look at stuff in thread while you’re in the reply window” mode. Yes, I know they’re in reverse order, but Urge just ain’t there. I get my two posts, Coosa, ManGeorge, Coosa, Rechenanlagen, and Coosa again. One of the Kats mentioned in another ATMB thread that HER new post got dumped in the middle of the thread in question. Is this a major bug, or is it just the board slowdown? It never did that before–post order was always graven in stone.

Does it possibly have something to do with whether you Preview Reply before you Submit it?

Also, Rechen’s statement that the links no longer work makes me very nervous. He’s joking, right? Otherwise we’ve got 21,000 threads with dysfunctional links? The mind boggles.

Urge/Ogre, sorry, babe, I think you blew it. Your last post, the one as the Urge, is also whining. Listen to yourself sometime.

Rechenanlagen, welcome to the SDMB! Here’s what OgreFade/Urge did, for future reference (if you’re really interested to find all the old threads, you can use Search and put in his user’s names).

During his time here, he whined and hollered and pouted, and occasionally posted something that made sense. We usually just ignore whining and hollering and pouting. We applauded the occasional sensible post. Then one night he got into a big fight in GQ with a couple of other posters. It wasn’t his fault, somebody who’d stayed up too late and had too much caffeine jumped all over him for what was actually an innocent question.

But instead of doing the right thing, which would have been to post a stiff rebuttal and then walk away, inviting his opponent to join him in the Pit, battle was officially begun right there in GQ during about a 2 hour time period, several other posters all gleefully joined in the pileup, and OgreFade, as he then was known, posted a huge, furious “Final Farewell” to us all. He then followed this up by furious e-mails to everybody at the SDMB who he felt had been mean to him, including a bunch who weren’t even involved in the original dust-up. Exit OgreFade.

Then, about a week later, a newbie named The Urge appeared, who actually made sense. At first. After a while, though, he started whining and pouting and hollering in a familiar way. Also, he reverted to OgreFade’s constant use of ellipses, which are these dots … …

WallyM7 gets the credit for spotting the identical ICQ numbers.

Instead of doing the right thing and admitting, “Yeah, you got me dead to rights, with two user names,” which is completely against the rules (it’s known as creating sock puppets), Ogre/Urge screamed bloody murder and threatened to obtain his own domain name, created 5,000 Hotmail accounts, and spam the SDMB.

So.

Don’t do any of these bad things, and you will never have to worry about being banned. But do please notice that he was NOT banned for whining and pouting. We even have some real live SDMB grownups who whine and pout on occasion.

You doubt me? Did you simply try it? You might learn something.

‘you just want to try it?’

Oh yeah, you’re getting off to a * fine start. *

If I hadn’t seen tshirts already posting elsewhere, I’d have sworn that she was back in another persona, snapping at my ankles. What’s your beef, anyway, buddy? Snide remarks don’t make you any friends here.

For the record, O Master of the Universe, I did not doubt thy most holy word. Never for a moment was thy imperial exactitude called into question by my most unworthy and doltish brain, if one can call this lump of matter north of my shoulders a “brain”. I was merely making conversation with my friend TubaDiva, who I have every reason to believe is an intelligent, sensitive human being with a marvelous sense of humor. You, evidently, are not.

I agree on TubaDiva, and after seeing your endless messages, excuse me if I have to quote Bob Newhart: “Well, the same to you, buddy!”

Sorry to have to tell you this, but yes, the previous message board links will not work.

This is the unfortunate casualty of our move to new software. The techs did their damndest to preserve what they could, but ultimately it just did not work.

You’ll also notice some of the older posts have html tags and other detritus visible in the thread; that’s another something we didn’t ask for and will have to put up with.

Frankly, given what we’ve had to work with, I’m thrilled that we even HAVE the old posts with us.

It would have been ever so much nicer to have them pristine and wonderful and easy to access with old links, but life is what happens when you make other plans. It was not entirely the seamless transition we had envisioned, but you know, it could have been worse.

The news is not all bad. The tradeoff for what we have lost is what we now have before us; a board that does not crash every 24 hours (y’all seen that “routine maintenance” sign lately?), pages that load faster, more user and administrative options, and what appears to be lots of room to grow. (We had greatly exceeded UBB’s capacity; that’s the main reason we had so many technical troubles, it was never meant to take the pounding of determined Teemsters.)

I dunno about you, but I’ll take it.

your humble TubaDiva
Administrator

PS Y’all please keep those bug reports coming, we want this to be the best experience it can be for you and we can’t know your dissatifactions if you don’t speak up.

Rechen, sweetie, simply repeating a non sequitur doesn’t serve to clarify it.

Or shall I more charitably assume that this is your first experience with what we call a “multipost”? For future reference, just because your post doesn’t appear right away doesn’t mean it wasn’t received. There are numerous threads dealing with this. “Trust the CGI–post only once, please!” over in GD is the one closest to the top of a list right at the moment. Look up “CGI” or “multipost” in Search.

You can usually tell a multi-post because the times are very closely bunched.

We have all had this happen to us at least once. Sometimes, during board slowdowns, some of the particularly hot yet clueless debaters in GD will post 7 or 8 times in a row out of sheer frustration, and then all those posts show up in an endless, dreary list, requiring deletion by the moderator. I even recall somebody perpetrating a 12-post grand slam during a slowdown a while back. Or maybe it just seemed like 12 posts–it was a particularly unedifying post, and it was wearisome to read it once, let alone more than that.

I always give the board at least an hour to work its way through whatever’s in the pipeline, before I assume that it lost my post. The only time I’ve ever actually HAD to repost was when the phone rang and disconnected me two seconds after I’d hit Submit Reply. Everything else, even when the phone rings in the middle of the transmission, has gone through eventually.

So.

Tuba: Message received. ::: sigh ::: Onwards and upwards, I guess…

Oh, and BTW, speaking of dissatisfactions: I need a new computer chair, this one, the cushion is coming off and it goes “clunk clunk clunk” when I twirl it around…

Oy.

OK, Ogre, you got your chance. Don’t blow it.

Esprix

Notthemama, you’re supposed to get up off the chair before you spin it. It spins to allow you to entertain yourself (or the cat) while waiting for slow pages to load. It is not an amusement ride.

Notthemama

Just curious about this

I agree on TubaDiva, and after seeing your endless messages, excuse me if I have to quote Bob Newhart: “Well, the same to you, buddy!”

I seem to have seen something like this elswhere.

What do you reckon?

Casd

Like I told the other one,

You doubt me? Did you simply try it? (searching, in this case) You might learn something.

Methinks here is some misunderstanding between us maybe a little bit at cross purposes.
Looking at what you’ve done so far you appear to be very methodical, which will make you into a formidable debater.
We shall see.

Rats I picked up the wrong quote! that was aimed toward **Renchenanlagen.

So I just learned something.

It must be rough being banned. Happened to tshirts when he was being nice. Now he can’t come back here ever again.

casdave-

Sorry, I got mixed threads, too.

Rech and tshirts

I just read a thread about banning started by Coosa
about sockpuppets.

I was most disappointed to see how it degenerated but, worse, I see that my initial thoughts about you having a beef with Notthemama are true.

I checked several of your posts prior to this and it appeared to me that you were a new poster who was carefully trying out various aspects of the software prior to jumping into the rest of the board.

You may have some ‘history’ with Notthemama and that is between the two(or three or four or however many of you there are) but I would like to point out that I have seen many posts by said poster and by Antipro and by Coosa and I have yet to see anything I would find objectionable in any of them.

I am very impressed by the analyses of Notthemama and the logic displayed certainly sees off any argument you have been able to counter with.

I am nowhere near as astute as some individuals here but even I can see that some of the sideswipes you have taken at others such as Wally are utterly foolish.

I have also noticed that the attacks by you and your group or clique seem to be directed at the most able and some of the best posters here which leads me to the conclusion that you have something against the entire message board.

Why is that? Is this some mysterious system of anti-etiquette that you college kids have?Is this a form of entertainment so that you can talk to your friends about?

Annalamerino you make accusations against Notthemama which is fine and would lend you the support of any reasonable person but for the fact that you have not sustantiated a single one of them, so what do I make of you?
If you want to fight ignorance, then telling only part of a story will not do. If you fail to come up with anything then why should I or any other SDMB’er accept anything you say is true?

So, in conclusion guys and gals, unless you can show that you are reasonable and are not on some concerted campaign I will be happy to meet you in the BBQ pit were we can get properly mean and dirty. Incidently I feel sad that you find a bunch of pixels on a monitor so provocative that it has become a major issue in your lives.

Thanks for the support, Dave, but I think this party’s pretty much over. Haven’t checked the Pit yet to see if anybody took you up on it, but I have the feeling “that cat won’t fight”.

I think annalamerino and I are both too tired of the whole thing to go around any more, and Tuba was so fed up with Coosa’s thread that she locked it. Not that I blame her. I’d like to get on with MY life, too.

So, thanks, but don’t hock the family jewels on my account, you know?

I once molosted my mother
her thread was a blunder
but since I was first to post
though she loathed it the most
her thread, due to me,
can still be found… page 53!
