Is It Really Possible to get a "last Minute" Travel deal?

My wife and i both need to use a week’s vacation time, so I was wondering: can you (if able to fly at the last minute) get a terrific deal on a flight? We’d like to go to italy-is such a thing 9in high season) possible?

A few years back I managed to get a “last minute” flight to Benalmadena, Spain.

It cost me about £50 for 2 weeks in a 3 star hotel.

I had to teararse home, pack and be at the airport within 3 hours of booking it, I made it with about 20 mins to spare

It’s definitely possible, but you need to be really flexible. There are plenty of agencies at the major airports selling last minute packages, but of course you have to take what they offer, or leave it. That’s why there’s no guarantee you’ll get tickets to Italy, but if you’re willing to travel somewhere else, you can get nice bargains.

And it would be helpful to arrive at the airport with your baggage packed, instead of booking, going home to pack, and come back to the airport.

Not really, having worked my way through school with an airline and then a hotel every “deal” was so full of loopholes none was workable. By giving a cheap deal airlines can say “from $99.00” and then they make that $99.00 rate (of which they only have one) avilable but unbookable. This is done by putting extreme restrictions on it which make it hard for anyone to want.
