I go running several times a week, and I want to figure out the best way to keep my running shorts and shirts clean. I realize that one way to do this would be to just throw them in the laundry hamper, but I don’t have enough shorts to wear each pair only once.
What I’ve started doing is simply taking my shorts and shirts with me in the shower, and then soaping them up, rinsing them out, and then hanging them to dry.
Is this a reasonable way to clean them? I don’t care about the aesthetics. My main goal is to be safe and avoid fungul infections.
I’d say so yes. ANd why are you worrying about fungus if you don’t have any personally? Are you showering in a public shower? I think what you are doing is fine…I know a guy who used to use his dishwasher for his hats and shorts sometimes. Because of the heat.
In basic training we only had two pairs of PT uniforms. After PT we would hang them up to air out along side the one we wore the previous day which we would then wear the next day. We only got to wash them on the weekends. Might be a bit nasty in civilian but in reality it wasn’t that bad.
I should have been clearer. In the past I was less diligent about keeping my running shorts clean and dry and I wound up getting jock itch (sorry everybody if that is tmi). So I’m just trying to figure out a way to avoid that.
i handwash my nightie in the shower w/ me all the time. true, it’s probably not as dirty as running shorts, but as long as you use soap w/ hot water it should be ok.
