Is it still possible to Googlewhack?

It seems to me in earlier days of Google it was far more common to ask an uncommon question and get a single result. It struck me that it’s been a long time since this happened. This still a thing?

A Googlewhack had a precise definition. As I recall, it was:

  • Enter exactly two words into Google search (not as a phrase)
  • which are listed in Google’s dictionary
  • to produce a single result
  • that isn’t merely a list of words.

Since Google doesn’t provide the dictionary anymore, you can’t fulfill all those criteria. It is still possible, however, to type in two words and get just one hit. The googlewhack I found back then (“kalahari yottahertz”) now gives two hits.

Of course once you post it here, it’s just a matter of time before this page becomes another result. So you can poison your own googlewhack for all time by posting it here.

Stake your claims now folks! Step right up! They’re going fast!

I thought it was just getting one result. But I think they’ve long been difficult due to websites listing words, often turning out to be useless directories. So I think that exclusion makes sense.

And this can hardly be the first time it’s been discussed anywhere FWIW.

Porn name?

Yup, mine’s already there. IIRC the original Googlewhack site was also indexed by Google, automatically destroying most approved entries after time.

I was thinking Thomas Pynchon character, myself.

I seldom googlewhack for porn names. I hear Bing is better for that.

Would that be a Bingo?
