Is Jeff Probst REALLY An Ordained Minister?

On the 5/13 Survivor reunion show, Jeff Probst jokingly told Amber & Rob that he would marry them on the spot if they wanted, and he said something to the effect of “Not many people know this but I’m an ordained minister.”

Oddly enough, JP does not seem to have his own web site, and some quick googling failed to produce conclusive results.

Anyone know???

It’s easy enough. You can be ordained via the web at www.ulc.org.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when he said that.

Brethren! I was ordained by the Universal Life Church back in 2000.

I was happy to find out that being pious and attending church were no barriers to actually becoming ordained.

Woo hoo, I just got ordained. Any dopers want to get married?

Yeah, the only barrier is internet access or having a postage stamp!

I actually was ordained before you could do it on the web, a friend mailed it in for a bunch of us. Now I use Revtim as my username on a lot of things.

I was ordained by the ulc on the nineteenth day of December in 1997. I have done 2 weddings (for friends). They were an enormous pia, tons of work and pressure.

Bless you all.

All I know is I had my hand on the remote. If the couple in question had taken Probst up on his offer, I would have flipped channels immediately, convinced that I had just witnessed Survivor actually jumping the shark. As it was the entire season final, reunion and second reunion was just about the last nail in the coffin for me. I’m giving up reality shows for Lent.

Not that I’m Catholic or anything.

What’s that? I have to wait until February? Gah…

Just so you all know, there is a divergence of opinion among the laws of the various U.S. States about whether a person who has received a mail-order (or internet) ordination from the Universal Life Church can perform a marriage. For instance, there are se

If you are thinking of marrying someone as a ULC minister or being married by one, you should check your state law and judicial decisions interpreting it carefully.

I’m ordained by the ULC and performed the wedding of a friend of mine. I may be doing the same for my step-sister later this year. (My step-Mom is going to freak!).

My first thought is that he was a ULC guy too. The thing is, he couldn’t really perform the legal ceremony if they didn’t have a license. He could do it later but not right then.
