Sure, but I don’t think it does by default, it has to be configured that way.
But you are correct, it is something you can do and it isn’t a bad idea to do so.

I have so much on my plate right now and I hate how easily time gets away from me. The new normal is I have to pick up my son at 3:45pm, so my work day ends there. Or even earlier if my long COVID kicks in.
And fuck the federal government for making me enter in every part of the budget and outcomes in a web-based form. That adds a good three hours to the process that could have been avoided by letting me upload the fucking documents.
And fuck them for not having a downloadable version of each form. There’s no way the application submitter can answer all the questions without soliciting information from finance and others, so how can I send my coworkers what I need from them without writing it all out what’s on the web form? God I hate this. They have the worst fucking system to navigate, it makes no sense.
I have two of these federal grants I’m trying to do at once. I just feel they’ve got me at a disadvantage. I can’t find the hours I need to be on top of this. And so much time is wasted fucking around on their websites.
One late night (after drinking a lot) i had the same type of conversation with tech support. It was a USB plug not fully in the port, but same difference. I was so embarassed, but he just thought it was funny.
It amazes me because the stuff is expensive, and some of these people fire off enough fireworks to win a war.
I work four ten hour days, with Wednesdays off. (It’s a great schedule.) This week, Juneteenth fell on a Wednesday, so I was required to move my day off to another day, as Wednesday was a paid holiday and if I worked every other day I would be well over on hours.
I chose Monday since my daughter just started summer vacation from school, and my wife goes into the office on Mondays, and that would give me a chance to spend the day with her and I’d be free to watch her all day. And I took off Tuesday for good measure since I have tons of excess vacation time that my work is constantly yelling at me to use up.
So with one day of vacation I had a good 5 day weekend. time to relax and catch up on stuff around the house. It was nice.
Of course I’m back to work today and it’s a shitshow. This is why my vacation piles up. If I’m not around everything falls apart. Gah.
You know that some of this is by design, at least passively / subconsciously, right?
The way it is set up requires extra hours of frustrating work, which is a real barrier.
Real barriers mean fewer applications, and of those fewer correct applications, which makes the grantors’ job much easier.
Bonus: by having these barriers be procedural rather than substantive, they can still tell themselves and everyone else that they are as inclusive as all get-out.
wrong thread
Gods, I do not miss those days.
… and a highly belated but heartfelt bucketful of condolences to @Ike_Witt that is too tragic for rational words.
I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with your sister, but my heart goes out to her & I hope she’ll, eventually, be okay-ish.
Is there any way to screen shot or copy these sections using the snip tool? Seems like that at least would save some time. You can copy/paste the portion of the form that lists the info you need from your colleague instead of having to write it all out.
I have to do that all the time at work. Ctrl+Shift+S and then drop it in an email attachment, stick it in a Word document, send it in a Teams message, and so on.
Pretty much on a daily basis to be honest.
Yep. The snip tool is great because it can select only the section needed and you can highlight whatever relevant parts you want to emphasize, etc.
Copy and paste into body of email, off it goes.
No Social Security check this month??
I submitted paperwork to begin collecting Social Security each month. The 3rd Wednesday of each month. I got my first check in April, direct deposited to my bank on the 3rd Wednesday, just as promised. I had been (jokingly) doubting it would really happen…sounds like a scam…they wanted my banking information, etc.
This month I checked via online banking on the 3rd Wednesday, but NOPE!! Damn, I knew it was too good to be true. Fucking ripoff!! But then I found out that June 19th was a Federal holiday. Okay, I’ll give them that.
So I checked yesterday and again today. No money!! Seriously, WTF???
Anyone else have this happen?
I don’t draw Social Security, but I do get retirement payments from OPM, and thus far they have been rock solid on being delivered on the 1st of the month. The TSP, on the other hand, faithfully withdraws funds from my account on the 15th, but waits some random time before delivering them to me, it ranges from the 17th to the 20th.
So it sounds like SS is more like the random delivery date, but I do wonder how the Holiday affects this. When I was working, I loved Federal Holidays for the day off. Now that I am retired, I hate them for the same reason.
Thanks, I’ll be a bit patient, I guess. Seems like for direct deposit someone in Washington should just have to hit a key and poof, it all gets done.
Thanks. Good tip.
Parenting a four-year old.
This morning I told my son to clean up his room, the way I’ve been doing every morning.
He just decided… Nope, not gonna do that. Ran into the living room and sat on the couch. Gauntlet thrown.
I said, “You’re not going to do anything fun until you clean your room. And if you don’t do it now, you won’t have time to play before you leave.”
“You have no time to play,” he says, apparently fine with this.
Ten minutes later he decides to go pick up his room. It takes 30 seconds.
Dad says, “Time to put on your shoes.”
Wee Weasel: “Time to play!”
No time, kid. It’s too late, kid. We’ve gotta go. We told you this was going to happen.
Cue crying. Cue refusing to put on shoes. That was a whole thing then. Ten more minutes wasted.
Did I mention yesterday he dumped an entire shaker of salt and pepper onto the kitchen table?
Living the dream.
I get my SS deposit the second week of each month - AFAICT it depends on your birth date, if it’s during the first week of your birth month, you get your checks during the first week, if it’s during the second week you get your checks during the second week, but the exact dates have never been consistent.
My last few deposit dates were
June 12th
May 8th
April 10th
March 13th
That’s how it’s alway been, it’s not consistent.
Thanks, that’s reassuring. I found the original “acceptance letter” which says my check can be expected “on or about” the 3rd Wednesday (because of my birthdate).
If it’s not there in a day or so, make sure your account hasn’t been updated by a scammer, redirecting the payment elsewhere.
I emailed my bank.
