Is June bugging you yet? (June mini-rants)

When I come up with an idea for a tattoo, I want it done asap. I chat with the artist, bring beer/weed/snacks over so I can get his/her input, and I’m like a kid waiting for xmas.

That all said, my most recent ink was ~5 years ago. I’ve had periods of time when I was in the shop for 4 sessions in a year, but my current 5 year dry spell is a personal record.

Currently contemplating a stick&poke.

I’m actually sad I have no empty space on my shoulders/upper arms. Near the pits was no fun, but yeah, loved the upper arms/shoulders.

I have two ideas, one for the upper left arm (so shirts can over it) and smaller one I’d like to have on the inside of my left wrist. Though I think that one would hurt more and be harder to care for given it’s a more “active” area than the outer arm.

I strongly endorse the upper arm. Most people have no idea that I have tattoos, I don’t seem like “the type” to have them, and essentially unless I’m shirtless or in a tank top nobody will see them even in a short sleeve shirt unless I roll up my sleeve to my shoulder. And yeah, for me it didn’t really hurt at all, at worst it was like having a mild sunburn. (Until later when it starts healing then YOW that itch is maddening for a short while.)

The only reason I’d avoid getting a tattoo there is if you really wanted to show it off all the time and don’t want to wear clothes that would expose it. Mostly, I got my tattoos for myself, they are personal so I don’t have any intention of making them visible very often.

I also don’t in any way regret them. I got them like 25 years ago and I still love them. They still look good and they are relevant to me. (Note, one of them is the kanji symbol for “atama”.)

Yeah, the upper arm would require an appointment. The wrist could be a walk-in.

Go ahead and call a cop! That’s what I was thinking of saying to the clerk at the small town grocery store I frequently shop at for the last 28 years.

Because I used my voided drivers license to purchase a pint of beer. Oh I have my new Real ID it’s just that it’s a pita to extract from my wallet. So I keep the old one to use if I get carded. I’m over 50 yo mind you.

The clerk sputtered you can’t use this! I just looked at her and asked why not? It’s me.

Well she didn’t like that at all and grabbed it and walked over to the big counter where the big kahuna sits. I kept my back turned and waited. She came back over and said alright but you better not be driving with this!

Pfff that’s not your problem!

Anyway we ended it with genuine thank you’s and have a nice day.

I never said, but I did appreciate this. Spent some time pondering it, even.

Actually, if you had been an enforcement agent doing a sting, it’s quite possible she and her employer could have had serious legal problems for accepting an expired ID, based on my memory of being a convenience store cashier and dealing with alcohol sales.

Granted, if that’s the case, that should have been explained to you and rather more politely. Still, seems a bit entitled to me to get angry at a cashier for doing her job as she was trained to do it. Better to take it up with someone who has some actual authority beyond “do as you’re told or get fired”.

:slightly_smiling_face:‍↔

Nah not angry more amused. And the cashier got the blessing to accept it from the big kahuna. I’ve been using the same DL at Meijer and they take it scan it and not a word is said. I can even use it to vote here in Michigan, it’s still valid as proof of ID .

Can you reach to Sharpie it onto your skin yourself? That way, you have a “temporary” so you can see how it looks, if you’re happy with placement, etc.

It doesn’t hafta be artistically perfect, but it can work as a sort of visual rough draft.

You should have said not to worry, you parked over by the potato chips but you’ll take it easy backing out of the aisle.

What I felt like asking for is a paper sack for the tall boy so I can sip and drive :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yeah, but they’d have to actually stick around, not take off like these dogs did.

An anti-rant (with a little teeny rant contained just to stay in the spirit of the thread).

Anti-rant: Mr. romans and I applied for Global Entry. We had our interviews this past Sunday. Today, on Thursday, a mere 4 days later, our Global Entry cards arrived in the mail.

Teeny rant: The government efficiency nearly gave me whiplash! And the ID photo is absolutely dreadful, though to be fair, that’s probably what I look like while traveling anyway.

For my tattoos, both artists I used had no problems stenciling the art and putting it on me. I could have taken time to think about it and re-book to get it done if I had doubts.

Neither of them were willing to just go ahead and tattoo without ensuring everything was exactly as I wanted it. Back and forth with sketches and final art and colour selection, and even a few different sizes of stencils to get it right. So if it didn’t look as good as I thought it would, it was no big deal, I could cancel at any point (until they started inking, I suppose…).

I wouldn’t work with someone who wasn’t willing to do that.

I’d still pay them for their time though (not that I had to consider it; I went ahead with mine!)

Now I want another one! Need an idea…

We moved to WV a few weeks ago and I assumed that my AZ driver license would be valid proof of ID to get a WV license.

I fucking KNOW better than to do that, everyone knows that what happens when you assume anything.

I have to have a certified copy of my birth certificate which is probably NOT in the moving van because it was lost shortly after I used it last time. Farts in Hubs general direction.

While it is possible that my birth certificate is in the moving van, I went online and paid for another copy which will take 6 to 8 weeks to get here.

So, that means that I can’t get my WV driver license until after the legal time limit. Hubs is stressing over this but I have been a felon since I was 16 and I am very comfortable with breaking the law and feel that this isn’t a big deal.

The main reason I am not happy is because I need a valid WV ID or DL to get my Medical Marijuana card and I’m down to a couple of ounces.

I never moved to WV. Do they check on your move date when you go for your new DL?

I did move from California to Oregon in July of 2022. I got a permanent address in February of 2023, and that’s when I went to the DMV.

Yep, that process is part of what builds excitement. I have gotten ink from four artists, all friends (as well as friends of each other). Getting a tattoo is a process.

The only “spontaneous” tattoo I’ve ever gotten was after the memorial service of one of my tattoo artists. A friend of the deceased was dealing with his grief by doing memorial tattoos.

If you don’t mind driving north into New York, that could be an option. A friend has a summer cottage near Lake Erie. When he’s there he crosses into New York and visits a reservation dispensary to purchase supplies. He has a Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana card, but the reservation weed is a fraction of the cost.

I’m getting my passport renewed, and was astonished to find out how old, asymmetrical, and unkempt I am! I need a facelift and a lot more makeup now. :astonished:
