Is Mark Tremonti the last great arena-riff writer?

Ok. Ill admit. I am converted to the ways of Creed. I consider rmyself to be a strictly hardcore kid at heart and refused to even give these cats a chance for thier first 2 albums. But dammit, Mark Tremonti knows EXACTLY what notes to hit and when. I have been playing guitar for about 8 years now, and I wish I could output half the feeling that that guy does in my own stuff.

Hes not a shred-meister, but he can be if he wants. This guy just seems to ooze arena rock riffs. Thats the only way I can describe them. Nearly every song on all of thier albums has a very catchy riff that is not all too difficult to play.

Mark Tremonti is an awsome guitar player and anyone who doesn’t think so is just an ate up, wanna be hard, Satch lover… like I used to be.

No.

Y’know, I really hate Creed. I think their lyrics are really pretentious and even smarmy at times, but that’s really only Scott Stapp’s fault.

Tremonti, on the other hand, not only plays very well (even songs like “Higher” and “With Arms Wide Open” that I really don’t like have great soloing), but his guitar itself is just to die for. I LOVE the doves on the frets.

So while Mark Tremonti might not be “the last great arena-riff writer”, I give him a lot of credit for his musicianship. I just wish he was in a band I could respect.

Hey now. I happen to hate both Creed AND satch. Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn are all the guitar hero I could ever need.

I’ll admit that creed has catchy songs, and I honestly don’t mind listening to their music. Its just we haven’t had anything new or original in rock since nirvana and pearljam. Isn’t that lame! A decade has passed and all we have to show for it is Creed?! I’ve got my fingers crossed for a couple of bands though.

Creed is possibly the worst thing to happen to music, and Mark Tremonti is a big part of everything wrong. Uninspired, formulaic and boring drop-D riffs played with the disinterest of that drunk kid in the corner picking away on an acoustic at a party. There have been thousands of better writers before Tremonti, and believe me there will be a thousand to follow that will far exceed him in playing capability as well as tunefulness.

Mark Tremonti is just a sub-par hack in a corporate rock band. Don’t delude yourself that he’s anything more.

Hmm… Been a few days since I checked in on this thread. Red Menace sounds like an aspiring shredd-starr who has some garage band that is “under-appreciated” on the local music scene.

Based on your short post, I have an overwhelming feeling that you are a huge Dream Theatre fan? Am I right?

You are not right, you are very wrong. “Shredd-starr”? “Garage band”? “Dream Theatre fan”? Wrong, wrong, wrong. Random chance should have led you to make more correct predictions than you did. And what’s it to you anyway? The ad hominem attack is usually the last refuge of a a fool has made a truly asinine argument (such as “Mark Tremonti is the last great arena rock guitarist” - seriously, why would he be the last? The whole fucking premise to the OP doesn’t make sense) and is now struggling to maintain his dignity.

So what else can you intuit about me from my message board writings, Phlip? I’m genuinely curious at this point.
