Is Minnesota really that cold?

International Falls, MN. Average Winter Low is -6.6, mean minimum is -32.5 and record low is -55.

Kinda blows away all of those, which is why Minnesota traditionally lays claim to being the coldest of the 48 states.

Yes, northern MN, N. Dakota and Montana can be horrible because it’s not just the temperature, but the wind can really cool you down fast. 40 below keeps the riff-raff out.

The Iron Range is known as a great spot for cold weather testing new cars, batteries, tires, etc. Locals can tell almost immediately when a group of testers shows up from warmer lands. It’s entertainment for sure.

The cold didn’t get to me so much until recently. As I age, my arthritis lets me know just how cold it is, even before I get out of bed.

My mom told me that one time when she was a kid it snowed on the Fourth of July when they were setting up for a picnic. She said it didn’t last long though.

That was in South Dakota though, not Minnesota.

I believe the only month it has never snowed in Minnesota is August.

It is supposed to get above 70[sup]o[/sup]F today, and over 80 by Friday. If anyone thinks therefore all is forgiven, think again.

We can get snow any month of the year in the Colorado Mountains. 32 inches in the last 2 weeks. Around 30 feet so far this year at my house.
