Is my right foot mutating?

I have a spot on the bottom of my right heel. It hurts like a bruise, but is not a bruise. It has a dark look to it as if there were something deep under the skin, but there is nothing “foreign” in there. It’s about the diameter of a dime. It has a slight bump to it. It is not a callous or fungi. I have no idea what it is. I have been aware of it for about two months. My mom thinks it’s something called a plantars wart, but I don’t think that is what it is. Should I be worried about this? Any ideas what it could be? Have I been implanted by aliens?

Sounds like a planter’s wart to me, too… Does it feel like you’ve got a stone stuck in your shoe? There’s some things you can get for those that’ll dissolve them away painlessly in a few days’ time.

Sounds like a plantars wart to me too. I had one when I was a kid, and I needed a simple in-house surgery to remove it. Go see a podiatrist.

Can you get them anywhere else besides the foot? Someone I know has an odd mark on her that looks pretty much the same… blueish color, about a dime, under the skin. She just sort of shrugs it off, but I’d be at a loss to explain what the thing is. However, instead of the foot, it’s on her jaw (which is why I can see it).

Have you ever seen “How I got ahead in Advertising”. I think it’s a new head.

Plantar wart virsues can only grow in keratinized skin - the thick, crusty stuff you find on the bottom of your feet. So unless your friend looks like she’s spent her life dragging herself around by her jaw, that’s probably not what it is.

As a somewhat gross sidenote, these viruses are cultured in the lab by making rafts of this type of skin and growing them floating on nutrient broths. Yum.

and people thought the X-Men was unrealistic.

Yes … it is happening folks. MSK’s foot will have super powers.

That’s “plantar” wart. “Plantar” means “of the sole of the foot.”

Yup. Plantar wart. Plantar warts are no big deal, but they have to be treated or else they can spread.

I had one when I was a kid. It was removed surgically. Still have the scar.

I also had one a couple of years ago. I bought some stuff at the drugstore to dissolve it. I think it was called Duo-plant. It worked great. I put the ointment on twice a day, and the wart was gone in a month or so. It even came with a little chart so I could follow the progress of my wart. But my wart was a lot smaller than yours. If it is as big as a dime, then it is probably worth getting it looked at.

Good luck.

Oh yeah…

Your friend should get her spot looked at ASAP–if not sooner. Don’t let her shrug it off. Drag her by the hair to the dermatologist. Don’t mean to scare you (or her), but a spot like that on the jaw could well be melanoma.
