Is my salmon a goner?

Oops. My husband got some pieces of frozen salmon out of the freezer this morning about 9AM. I meant to let them defrost for a bit, then put them in the fridge, but I forgot. They have spent the day on the kitchen counter. The pieces are about 5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, and vary from 2 inches to about 1/2 inch high. I assume by the time I get home (about 6PM) they will be cold, but not frozen.

What say you, cooking dopers? Ok to eat, or surefire trip to the ER?

Still wrapped? Cook them and eat them. Unless your counter is a breeding ground for toxic bugs, there shouldn’t be a problem. Just don’t re-freeze it.

(The usual disclaimers apply.)

I wouldn’t eat this salmon raw, but if you cook it well, it will probably be fine.

I am home. The salmon is chilled, but not as cold as if it came from the fridge. It was wrapped (in a freezer bag), my kitchen is not a haven for microbes, I don’t intend to re-freeze it, nor do I intend to eat it raw.

Looks like I am in the clear.

If I don’t post for a few days, will someone please come look for my body?

The salmon mooooouuuuusssssse!
