Or to some, a preferred method of execution.
Death by Badger snoo snoo.
Yes, but one of those “women” was Brian May. You’d hate to draw the short straw there.
I know YouTube auto-censors but if that’s the link I think it is, it is seriously NSFW.
ETA: And I’m at work so fortunately had the “inappropriate content” message come up before anything appeared onscreen.
Boobs are Not Safe For Work now? What is this world coming to?
(I extend apologies, and ask if a Mod could add teh appropriate flag.)
Magiver, I appreciate the link to the Huffington Post about a jihadist who wanted to tear down some of the treasures of Egypt. However, that was a claim that was made in the last year or two. You said that your experience happened shortly after 9/11. Do you have a cite for the time period that you asked the question? Something that would indicate that the idea was formenting then and you knew about it?
If it were old news, why was it the main headline in the recent Huffington Post?
Of course, jihadists come from somewhere, but the idea that mosques in general are breeding places for them seems a little uniformed.
I thought that you said the purpose of having the gathering was to learn about their religion. Your questions were about acts of terrorism done by a few.
In checking my local newspaper website, I see that the zealots are at it again. A meeting at the Murfreesboro Mosque (which was held to help non-Muslims better understand Islamic beliefs) was disrupted with heckling and constant taunts from the non-Muslims.
I don’t really think they are there for the purpose of learning anything about Islam. I think they are there to spew their ignorant hatred. My heart went out to the leader who was trying to do a service for the community. They have been constantly harrassed.
Maybe there’s hope. In the late 1920s some of the citizens of Murfreesboro tried to keep a Catholic Church from being built. Maybe this will seem absurd to the residents some day too.

But once upon a time the KKK had millions of members.
And there’s a difference in that they welcome black and Asian people. Like this asian, allegedly a senior leader of theirs. Their founder also has a half-caste daughter. The KKK, on the other hand, are generally against miscegination. The EDL just don’t like Muslims.
“Welcoming” might be a bit much. “Happy to include a few tokens to confuse people about whether they’re mostly racist yobs” is probably closer. British Hindus, Sikhs and black people know that it never stops with one group.
Agreed. I’ll also admit I was a bit surprised by the reference to “a half-caste daughter”.
Isn’t that a bit archaic, like referring to blacks as negroes or Asians as orientals?
It’s still in fairly common use in the UK (as is Oriental, for that matter.)
The Buddhas of Hazarajat had existed in Afghanistan under Muslim rule for 1200 years before the Taliban destroyed them. Their destruction had far more to do with retaliation against the (mostly Shia) Hazara ethnic minority (who treasured the Buddhas as part of their cultural heritage) that used the valley as a stronghold refuge during their resistance to the Taliban, after the Taliban defeated the Hazara and conquered the Hazarajat.
Oh, I’m a bit surprised to hear that.
You ignored 2 things. The first is the explanation given by the local mosque I referred to. Their position was that it was a tenet of the religion that false idols be destroyed. It was justified. They are not, to my knowledge associated with the Taliban or at war with Shia’s. Secondly, the destruction of the Pyramids and Sphinx has been raised in Egypt. So there is apparently a conundrum that exists in regards to preserving ancient history and the teachings of Mohammad and it’s not limited to the most radical of his followers.
The EDL was originally formed by football hooligans, who cared far more about fighting then football
I don’t think they are racist, I’m starting to suspect they might not even be Islamophobic, they just find Muslims too easy to rile up into a brawl.
Friendlily offering them tea is the best possible way to undermine them.
You also ignored two things:
The concern for the destruction of the Pyramids is because of recent statements by a jihadist. You were asking for an explanation (from the gathering at the Mosque) about ten or twelve years earlier than the expression of one man that he would want those things destroyed.
Can you find a link which supports that you could have asked a question about something that would happen twelve years before it was news?
Can you offer an explanation why the ancient Buddhas survived for well over a thousand years under Muslim rule before they were destroyed? It isn’t logical that Islamists, as a whole, were behind the plot.
I quoted a leader of a local mosque, NOT a member of the Taliban or a jihadist. He said it was justified according to the religion.
Magiver, you still haven’t answered the most important question I asked. Your experience at the mosque was over twelve years ago. The cite that you provided about one jihadist suggesting destroying the pyramids and other ancient Egyptian relics is recent news. How did you manage to ask a question about something that wasn’t to happen for twelve more years?
If I am mistaken and this was an issue shortly after 9/11, please provide a link other than another repeat of the current news at Huffington Post.
On this issue of the pyramids, you did not quote the leader. You said you received a blank stare.
Just a reminder from your Post #4 in this thread:
