Remember the thread about celebrities on the Dope? Obviously, VCO3 is Jerry Lewis!
Silverman used to be funny. Nothing I’ve seen her do in the past couple of years has been funny. She’s pushing her tiny little shtick so hard that it’s stopped working for all but her most faithful fans. Outrageous things come from that cute face in her little girl voice. I get it. But the outrageous things have to be more than just outrageous. They no longer are, and I don’t know why.
I like Sarah. I think she is funny. Sometimes she’s cringe-inducing, sometimes she’s funny when inducing said cringe. I think she’s incredibly talented, though.
In the comedy central roasts she has told many very funny jokes, but it could be that someone wrote them for her. I kind of liker her but have not ever seen her be funny where you knew it wasn’t written by someone else. And her show is a mess- its like no one is really trying to act or even get into character- random funny one liners thrown in here and there, but no humor stemming from the plot.
I think the punchline was something like “60 million would have been unforgivable…”. It was maybe the only joke is “Jesus Is Magic” that made me laugh.
The part I don’t get about her is the impression that she’s attractive. I suppose I might be amused by her “cute girl talks nasty” schtick if I was actually under the impression that she was cute. I find her weird-looking. And not particularly funny. She’s been decent in some movie roles I’ve seen, but her stand-up act leaves me scratching my head.
I don’t think she’s funny … but I fully admit I might be comedy-challenged*. I don’t really get her jokes, I sort of sit there in silence (the reason I am watching in the first place is because Mr. Del thinks she is a laff riot) and eventually pick up a magazine.
And for some reason I’m really annoyed when Mr. Del mentions that I don’t like her because I don’t like the vulgarity. Unfortunately it’s one of those situations where the more I protest that I don’t mind the vulgarity, the more I sound like a crazy church lady.
I don’t think she is funny. Margaret Cho is funny. Ellen is funny. Roseanne’s standup was funny, and for the most part her show was very funny up until that last season. Lily Tomlin was funny. I have no problem with offensive, vulgar humor, but Sarah Silverman seems to have left out the humor and only picked up on the offensive and vulgar parts.
“I’m telling you for the last time, you weasel-fucking, cunt-smashing dribble of monkey jizz, I don’t give a rat’s fucking left nut about the goddamn VULGARITY.”
I think the comedians do write their own material for roasts. She may just be better at insulting people than at doing stand-up - I don’t think I’ve seen her anywhere outside of roasts or The Aristocrats, though.
She was just fine on Greg the Bunny, although she, Seth Green, and Eugene Levy were all upstaged by the [del]puppets[/del] Fabricated Americans on the show.
A lot of people think she’s funny now, because she’s still cute enough to do spreads for Maxim and FHM. She’d better enjoy the fun while it lasts, because she’s in her mid-thirties now, and her acceptability, or rather, her bankability, depends a lot on her fuckability. tick. tick. tick.
Another person in the camp of people who don’t think she’s funny. I don’t find anything clever in her shtick, the few times I’ve seen her act (on television, never live.)
