Is Sienna Miller even a star?

The point is that Wayne Rooney is a HUGE superstar in the UK and relatively unknown here - so might he vacation here to go unnoticed. And the point was that he WAS recognized here…

So I suppose it relates to Ms. Miller in the same way - might she be a star elsewhere, given the OP’s question about if she is a star, I presume, in the US?

I can honestly say I’ve never, ever heard her name before or seen her face before this thread.

Wow, she’s very shiny.

Never heard of her till now. My first impression has not been positive.

Though I’ll still probably check out the movie anyways. I’ve never read The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, but “Wonder Boys” was another movie adaptation of a Michael Chabon novel and I thought that was great, so I’ll give it a go.

Oooh, cuts me to the quick! No, wait, it doesn’t. People who are proud of cinematic ignorance have no bearing on my life. Not that there’s anything wrong with cinematic ignorance; few people have time to keep up with indie films and how they’re received (hint: Layer Cake: very well), but to use it as an insult…

It’s just personal taste. I have seen outfits that looked atrocious (while searcing for pictures) but those on that page are cute to me. I like the layered look. Weird boots though.

Yeah, she is, and you’re proving her point.

SenorBeef, what’s a yinzer? Fun word!

Wow, you are a humorless snob. You can like her looks all you want, but to me she looks like a emaciated washed-out WASP heiress. Not my cup of tea.

Jeez, equipoise, why don’t you marry her already? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, the girl in Keen Eddie.
She was really young when she did that. I thought she was in her late 20s in that show. No wonder she didn’t expect to be carded.

Equipoise, I don’t care if she’s Katherine freaking Hepburn-she comes to my city, and is treated very well by said city, and then proceeds to badmouth city and then whine when people call her on it. She also throws a hissyfit when she’s not recognized by a bouncer who was just doing HIS FREAKING JOB.

And yes, she’s 25-but the policy is generally card everyone under THIRTY. Actually, IIRC, that’s not just policy, it’s state law.

Anyway… to answer the question posed by the OP in the title of the thread: Sienna Miller may or may not be a skilled, talented actress; some people think she’s attractive, some don’t. From a purely objective point of view, she’s done some small roles in a small amount of movies seen by a relatively small amount of people. From a show business point of view, that makes her, in the grand sceme of things, a very minor actress - perhaps a minor actress with a promising future, but a minor actress nonetheless.

So no, Sienna Miller is not a star.

She is, however, an asshole. Or at least she’s acting like one.

It might be safe to say that William Hung is still a bigger star than Sienna Miller. And, as far as anyone knows, he may be more talented than she. Furthermore, he is safe from any allegation that he achieved fame by having sex with Hugh Grant.

My goodness you’re an insufferable snot. I’m guessing you’re about as “cut to the quick” as I was by your implication that I spend my free time poring over the pages of Us Weekly.

Your regard for the girl is no more rational than my lack of same. Being a Sienna Miller fan is hardly a mark of cultural acumen. Do attempt to get over yourself.

From the link above… I’m not seeing how her outfits are cute?

why is her shirt tucked into her pockets? and why does she have bags tied to her feet?

This top is just a nightmare–also, possibly NSFW as she seems to have a bit of nipple poking out if you look closely.

I wouldn’t say I’m a Sienna Miller fan. I didn’t even remember that she was IN Layer Cake. I like her in the movies I’ve seen her in, namely Casanova. I don’t really care what she does in the real world. What bothered me is how she’s being jumped on with very little evidence. No one has seen fit to post her comments in Rolling Stone (and the surrounding context), the link in the OP just stinks of heresay, publicity-hungry bitchiness on the part of the Tavern owner, and snarkiness by an insulted Pittsburghian writer, so as far as I’m concerned, we don’t really know what happened. Give me some actual quotes and video, and then I’ll decide. She’s been put down because she happened to have a famous boyfriend for a while (and Jude Law isn’t all that famous) who then cheated on her, and then she’s condemned because UK paparazzi catch her every move everytime she steps out of her house, which is hardly her fault. People are being bitchy toward her for little reasonable reason (and without proof) I can see.

It’s the tabloid society we live in that I hate most I suppose. People say they don’t pay attention, but then look at this thread. People offer up tabloid tidbits, and other people believe every word of it.

I loved her in Casanova and Keen Eddie. I’m hoping that Stardust turns out great too.

American drinking laws are stupid…

My impression of her was as a minor star (one who had a topless phot shot in Vanity Fair). I look at lots of mags in my bookstore/library jobs and she pops up in the celebrity stuff. However now when I see her name in print I will think “spoiled brat”. She still may or may not be a good actress, but no one should be able to get away with rude behavior like that, just cause they’re a talented whatever.

Opal, those are the LEAST of her fashion sins!

Observe.

And they call her a fashion icon. For who-people who wear stuff that sucks?

Those Brits sure do have wacky slang terms for jerking off.

Is this a whoosh?

Ooh, I am so hesitant to post something that even in the tiniest bit defends Sienna Miller, who’s contributions to acting have consisted of being pretty and not being a horrible actress*, but . . .

I agree, in my personal opinion, that her clothes suck, but to truly be an icon in anything you’re going to make choices that fly in the face of conventional taste.

from Wayne’s World
“Led Zeppelin didn’t write songs that everybody liked, they left that to the BeeGees.”

*Yes, I watched Keen Eddie I loved it but she was simply a pretty actress who’s acting was not horrible, I saw Layer Cake, loved it but she was simply a pretty actress who’s acting was not horrible, I thought Alfie was an o.k. movie, I might have liked it better if I wasn’t already a fan of the far superior Michael Caine version, but Sienna Miller’s only purpose in that film was to walk around naked with oddly shaped boobs and weird looking areolas and a bony ass- her acting contibution to that film actually was bad, I cringed whenever she was onscreen.
