Is Sienna Miller even a star?

What’s hilarous about that web page is she takes Anna Wintour and other magazines to task for being obsessed with Sienna Miller, then proceeds to build an entire web page obsessed with Sienna Miller. There aren’t enough eye-rolling smileys for that page. And yeah, some of those outfits are sucky. I just don’t think the ones on the earlier web page were.

bienville, seriously, give Casanova a try. It’s a light, frothy, have-fun-while-you’re-watching-it-but-then-forget-about-it-until-Sienna-Miller-comes-up-and-you-remember-how-good-she-was-unless-you’re-a-Heath-Ledger-fan-and-you-will-love-it-dearly-because-he’s-a-real-doll-in-it confection. It probably won’t turn you into a Sienna Miller fan, but she is good in it, and her character is smart and independent and interesting throughout.

On preview, yeah, that sounds pretty bad. Sucks to be from Pittsburgh and have someone diss your city like that. But as I said earlier, I don’t really care about her personal life. Lots of actors and actresses are assholes in real life, it generally doesn’t affect how I view their movies. As long as she’s not a $cieno or a Republican.

Actually, the webpage http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/ is not especially obsessed with Sienna Miller. They go after bad fashion in general. The page linked to earlier in this thread was just their sub-page relating to Sienna Miller. They also have pages for many other celebrities.

Also, it’s just an all-around clever site. Excellent, witty writing.

Ahh, being a Republican or a Scientologist is worse than being an asshole?
Good to know what kind of person I’m conversing with.

Right, I understand that, but they took Anna Wintour to task for featuring Sienna Miller, then they featured Sienna Miller. I get that it was a “Vogue thinks she’s good, here’s why we think she’s bad” page, but it’s still focusing on her. It just struck me as funny. I also get that they’re trying to get celebrities to shape up and pay more attention to what they wear. Good luck with that. That’s not sarcastic. I like to see celebrities looking classy and well-put together as much as the next person.

Well, a person can grow up and get better manners. $cienos are usually brain-washed and it’s harder to get them to see the light of reality. Republicans don’t have to be lost causes regarding reality, but this is 2006 America and one just has to look around at the lack of outrage. Get back to me after the election.

Personal insults are NOT PERMITTED in this forum. DianaG, calling someone “an insufferable snot” is out of bounds. It is possible to disagree with people without resorting to that kind of personal attacks.

You may think that Equipoise started it. That’s possible, I don’t know, I’m not going to read back through a long a thread to find out who hit back first. I know that your post was reported as out of line, and it is. When someone insults you in this forum, you do NOT insult back, you hit the Report Bad Post button (the exclamation point in the triangle in the upper right corner of the post) and let a Moderator handle it. That way, the person who started the insults gets in trouble and you don’t.

The way you’ve handled it, you’re the one getting yelled at.

So, let this be a lesson to others: when you’re insulted, do NOT respond in kind, but hit the REPORT buttton.

Just so everyone knows, I’m not the one who reported Diana’s post. I had no idea it was reported.

Oh for crying out loud-it’s intended to be humorous! Loosen up a little, wouldya?

No harm, no foul, Equipoise. I *was * out of line for CS. Apologies all around.

Accepted, and I apologise for my snarkiness toward Pittsburgh. I now think Sienna was out of line (at least with her comments, I still don’t know exactly what happened at the tavern) and she should grow up a little bit and learn when to keep her mouth shut. Diplomacy toward a city that is hosting a film shoot is something she needs to learn. I still like her acting though.

I’m irritated (not bitchy) with her because she’s the classic example of how big a jerk someone can be after they’ve been on a few magazine covers, but before they’ve been on a lot of them. If it had been, say, Nicole Kidman or Angelina Jolie who made those remarks, someone who’s been a guest in many cities, I would give them more weight, because they would be judging Pittsburgh as compared to Paris, Rome, Bombay, Mexico City, and whatever truly podunk locations they might have been in. I don’t get the impression that Miller has paid enough dues to be able to speak from a position of authority. The impression I do get is that she hasn’t yet caught on to the fact that being an actress is still just a job, and it’s not glamorous 100% of the time.

I know bienville already posted the RS link, but I can assure you, this was never a matter of tabloid tidbits. Miller shot her mouth off directly to a reporter for a major magazine. She made herself a target; Pittsburghers are not picking on her for no reason.

True, but Led Zeppelin’s songs weren’t absolute shite, as Ms Miller’s outfits usually are. She generally dresses like a deranged homeless woman, or like someone’s white-haired old grandmother.

It’s my understanding that people from the rural area around Pittsburgh are the only people who say “yinz” in place of “you all”. So, “Yinz going to the store? Yinz all dating your sisters?” etc.

Yinz, or yunz, is Pittsburghese, is is more of an urban/suburban phenomenon.

As to the incest, I’ve never known that to be associated with my city before.

Well, for some perspective, most of my knowledge of Pittsburgh comes from Cleveland Browns message boards.

(So it gets a lot worse than that)

This gives a brief explanation of yinzer.

Yep. “Yinzer” is local slang for an uneducated Pittsburgher who doesn’t know enough to speak proper English. I’ve only heard it a few times, but it exists. It’s not polite. As for “yinz” itself, it’s the local plural of “you”, roughly equivalent to “y’all”. The local rock’n’roll station, WDVE, has a soundbite they play which uses it in the proper context: “Hey yinz guy, it’s Friday!” I’ve also seen it spelled “yunz”.

Enough local etymology. When Ms. Miller was interviewed, she’d apparently been staying in her hotel room and only going out for the shooting they were doing at night. In other words, she was commenting on a city she hadn’t even been out to see. I’ve been to London and New York; if I’d had the equivalent experience of those cities, I might share her opinion of them. On the other hand, I can’t imagine spending some time in a city and never going out to see what it’s like. If nothing else, the hotel Ms. Miller was staying at’s within a mile of the Andy Warhol museum; surely going there would be research, if nothing else.

I’m sure every city in the world has its detractors. I’ve even ridden a bus on Oahu and listened to a couple of guys who were in the military trashing the state. Ms. Miller apparently fancies herself a sophisticate and, with her background, she’s got some reason to claim that title. On the other hand, the way I was raised, a true sophisticate would do no such thing.
