It took you this long to ditch Sinfest? I’m honestly not sure when I gave up, but years I’m sure. I just took a quick peek, like 3 weeks of strips, and it still seems like its unfunny self. More’s the shame, I very much liked older Sinfest.
I started reading it around 2008, archive-binged, then it became a pleasant daily habit. The development of Fuschia’s infatuation with Criminy really charmed me. After the Big Changeover it continued to be a daily habit — like fingernail-chewing — that you really want to quit.
It took me several years to work up the will power to go cold turkey.
I guess no one really has an answer for you so I’ll just add in that I also quit reading it a few years ago after realizing that I sort of hated the previous year of reading it. I went now and read the last thirty or so strips and not only feel like it hasn’t changed much but also was sort of surprised at how little the story feels like it’s moved. It felt like I could have grabbed any random month in the last five years and had the same experience.
Wow. Today I learned that Sinfest is still going. I was a daily reader from maybe 2001-2004ish. Assumed it ran out of gas years ago. No idea it found a second wind as an unfunny TERF platform. Yikes.
Really? After I made the initial post I went back and read the last 30 days — it was kinda like quitting cigarettes for months and then smoking a whole pack of Camel straights — the Devil has accepted Lil’ E as his son (by Lilith) and moved him (and the weird semi-devil chick) into Hell Mansion; Blue and Green are serving him Froot Loops; and Amber is confronting Fuschia, who calls her HOME WRECKER, which means she’s still hooked on Criminy.
Maybe I wasn’t attached enough to any of the characters to appreciate the stuff you’re jazzed up about. It all felt the same to me. And I also felt like I chainsmoked a pack after quitting for years – sort of nauseated and wondering why I thought that would be a good idea
Jesus and the Bood? God doing hand puppets? The sex tension between Monique and Slick? The giant Eastern dragon and the cute little angels? Lil’ E pouring lemon juice over Seymour’s paper cut? Squig getting barbecued?
A quick trip to southern California to acquaint Tat with a coupla blackjacks and we could get it all back again.
I read Sinfest for years and enjoyed it till the change to man hating in 2011. It was a daily habit for me also, so I waited awhile for the comic to become funny again, but it didn’t. I guess the author had become rich enough that he could indulge his mania and forget his audience.
I went back to the comic site just now to see if anything changed. This is posted
**Hi.
I’m launching a new forum for people who like the message of my comic…
It will favor the radical feminist perspective over a liberal or conservative one…**
Another “used to love it but stopped reading it” person here, and the problem isn’t that the author “favors the radical feminist perspective over a liberal or conservative one”, it’s that the author favors the radical feminist perspective over being remotely interesting or funny.
Actually, it’s definitely possible to be a radical feminist AND funny AND tell a good story, but he’s been going for only one out of three for a long time now.
Man, if you can name me a still-funny explicitly-second-wave trans-excluding “feminist,” I’m all ears. Bonus points if it’s a cis male, because there’s nothing better than hearing a cis man deny the identity of trans women in the name of protecting lesbians.
I didn’t say anything about “trans-excluding”. Or “second-wave”. Or “cis male”. And I sure as hell am not defending any “trans-excluding” people, funny or not.
Looks like Amber just wants to put Fyoosh on th’ teevee, because she skipped out on the Devil to make art.
Amber was hired by the Devil to do “woke” television, within the Devil Corporation. She seems to have a free hand to do good stuff, but it looks like the Devil hired her to stick it to Fuschia and Criminy, and lure Fuschia back into his grasp. Fuschia distrusts Amber as an ex-girlfriend of Criminy (although they had only the one date and he never called her back…even though she said “I MUST have him.”)
It would be nice if Crim showed up and had some input into all this.
I haven’t looked in on (or thought about) Sinfest for years, but Facebook recently fed me a post with an old Sinfest comic and I gave the current comics a look and he is full-on Donny-worshipping MAGA now.
