Is Soda an Appropriate drink with breakfast?

Ah. Completely glossed over context. Slow brain day for me.

I haven’t tried that one, but one thing I like to do is to pour a splash or two of gin in a glass and then fill it with orange soda. I don’t know if one could drink enough of these to get drunk, but with the gin, it kind of reminds me of the flavor of orange juice.

I can’t handle real orange juice – it gives me really miserable stomach pains. At one time I was trying to give up Dr Pepper and switched to orange juice and I went to the doctor at least once a week for a month with unexplained stomach pains that he could not explain. Then one day I stopped at a tamale truck on the side of the road when I had run out of water on my bicycle and all they had were cokes. So I bought a coke and it was instant relief. I haven’t drank orange juice since then.

I guess citric acid really doesn’t agree with you.

The only previous bad thing I knew about orange juice was that it can aggravate kidney stones.

My brother is allergic to citrus. He can get stoned on orange juice.

Well, not really stoned. More of a mild buzz. But in principle . . .

On the other hand, I can drink all the lemonade I want without an issue. Also, until I started taking statins, I ate a grapefruit every day, when possible, and never had an issue.

Wow. That’s interesting. Wonder what it is about oranges vs. lemons?

I wasn’t going to post here, because I’m a traditionalist (eggs and bacon and thirty-weight coffee at a ‘greasy spoon’ diner).

But “drawing the line” at 8 oz of coffee? The fuuuuuuh…?

If I’m not in restaurants with bottomless cups, I stop by “good” coffee places. I never order less than 20 oz (it’s usually only a quarter more than a 16-er).

Caffeine is my friend. It really helps me get stuff done, and my doctor has prescribed it for my ADHD.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if it’s appropriate or not. Free country, drink what you want.:coffee::tropical_drink::sake:

I don’t drink coffee…ever.

I’m not a big fan of hot drinks (tea or hot chocolate). I don’t have a caffeine habit (meaning I require it regularly). I don’t drink a lot of soda (today is recycle day, there’s one, 12oz can in there from the past week) but I do sometimes need a pick-me-up. Nights in a hotel are almost always get in late & leave early, a place to rest the head for a few hours. When one is working on short hours, one doesn’t want to waste the time for a sit-down breakfast at a diner or a Denny’s (are they still around?) On-the-road, on-the-go breakfasts frequently include a soda to go with the convenience store / fast food sam’mich that, more often than not is eaten in the car, while driving between the hotel & destination.

My breakfast beverage of choice is baker’s chocolate mixed into hot water with a little (non-sugar) sweetener. If I run out, I’ll have a Zero-Sugar or Diet Coke. Very occasionally a green tea. Never coffee or black tea.

Sorry for the lateness of my question, but…your brother’s allergy doesn’t sound like much of an affliction. Does he ever drink OJ for the buzz, or is it a disagreeable buzz?

Allergies have the potential to go very bad, very quickly. So he avoids OJ.

This. An overdose of strawberry ice cream put me in the ER. I had no idea I was allergic to strawberries until then.
