There’s a social media post I’m seeing shared that claims “a full blown military occupation” going on there right now, including:
Social media suppression (I know, I know, but apparently tweaking certain keywords helps avoid it?)
False media reporting
Jamming of cell services
Nightly mass arrests and helicopter patrols
Seems kind of outlandish, but then, if it actually happens, it won’t seem any more believable at first either. Anyone know what’s (actually) going on that might inspire this? The Minneapolis subreddit seems relatively normal.
National Guard Soldiers were deployed (as state militia) to Minneapolis during the Chauvin trial, and there were tweets at the time that Minneapolis was under military occupation. It’s not unknown for viral tweets to re-hash events that happened weeks, months, or even years ago as if they were currently occurring.
Yes. On June 4th, Winston Smith was killed by police. As it was an undercover / joint taskforce kind of thing, no bodycams were worn. The police insist Mr. Smith drew a weapon.
The person in the car with Mr. Smith says there wasn’t any weapon in the car.
That started protests Uptown Minneapolis (actually, an area just south of downtown Minneapolis).
Then, on the 14th, a protester was struck and killed by a man who (it is believed) purposely accelerated into the crowd. The driver is now facing murder charges.
Minneapolis’ mayor, Jacob Frey, called for the intersection to be cleared, so it was. However, it appears the police decided to not be so nice about it - including slashing tires of any vehicle they so chose.
Protests started up again last night as it was the birthday of the deceased protester.
I have NOT seen / heard of any militia being called in, nor is there any media suppression, no jamming of cell service, and “mass arrests” is a misnomer. I believe there were 30 arrests last night. There isn’t a curfew in place. No mass violence (discounting the killer driver).
Are these the “mainstream, reliable news services” who are covering up the indisputable fact that Biden, Harris, Pelosi and Schumer (among other traitors) have been arrested and sentenced to death by military tribunals? Oh, sure, they’d like you to think otherwise; but all anyone “sees” of them are clips cobbled together from pre-existing footage.
To be fair, at least this is something supposedly happening TO the reporter, not just someone’s random claim about random people they have no connection to at all.
There’s been handwaving over “military occupation” of Minneapolis dating at least back to last November. Rep. Ilhan Omar accused fellow Democrats of complicity in the “military occupation” in April.
