Is that the clock ticking? Countdown to Amazon's The Tick

Not sure I’ll binge this one. Only so much goofiness I enjoy in one sitting … but I am looking forward to its release tomorrow!

Anyone else excited?

SPOOOOOOOON!

Been looking forward to this but I didn’t realize the premiere was so close.

Yes, yes, yes! I’m sorry Warburton can’t have the role, but I enjoyed the pilot. We’re really looking forward to this. SPOOOOOON!!

Just watched the first new episode. Not a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, but I spent most of the show grinning like a fool. I’m loving Tick’s Adam West-ish delivery and the way his antennae twitch while he’s talking. A little surprised to hear the uncensored swearing, but I guess it works with the more mature tone of this reboot. Loving Jackie Earle Haley as the Terror.

Watched the full 6 episodes today. I’ve been a fan since the cartoon in the 90s (which got me into the comic book). I think this Amazon series is better than the Fox live-action one from the aughts, and close to as good as the cartoon. It’s got a more adult tone (bad language and some blood), but it fits this version, IMO. Highly recommended to Tick fans, or anyone who likes the idea of a comedic superhero series.

My son texted me to say he was watching it. Which is annoying, but he was doing it while doing the laundry, and I’m out of socks. If he sets it up for me to watch later, he’ll live.

I really did not intend to binge this, but only six short eps … burp.

So is it to be understood that in this version
The Tick is obviously real but that somehow he has come into being out of Walter’s mind?

Also Overkill is meant to be satirizing Punisher, yes?

Any guesses about where they will go with Cliff?

Who’s Walter? Do you mean Arthur? No, I think he’s real, but his background is simply mysterious. If we go by the comic book, he’s an escaped mental patient, IIRC.

Yes, Overkill is an obvious Punisher analogue.

Who is Cliff? Is that the giant? If so, I don’t know.
Yes Arthur, sorry. And I don’t think these shows feel married to comic book canon.

And yes, that is the first name of the VLM.

He was looking for a place to put his knife…

YouTube has the cartoon series. Jokes not always intended for children.

We don’t put our best guys on the flamethrower.

We binged all six episodes. It was a fun ride. Wonder if Amazon will pick up another season?

The spoilers upthread? Yep, my husband said the exact same things.

It’d make sense re Arthur’s backstory with the way his sister is so overly concerned about him.

I’m still working my way through it. My daughter (15) likes the show but my son (10) has been resistant to all things The Tick. He doesn’t like bacon either, so sometimes I worry about him.

I’m enjoying it and I’ve liked all the previous incarnations of the Tick before. This one seems a little darker to me instead of just goofy. Not bad, necessarily, but a different flavor for sure.

It has certainly been suggested elsewhere that Arthur actually does have superpowers, one of which has resulted in the involuntary/subconscious creation of The Tickwhich would be consistent with what has been shown thus far, although I’m not yet ready to commit to this as a certainty.

If true, though, one could also extrapolate to get the idea that Arthur’s (and Dot’s) father was a superheroalthough probably notSuperian. Then again, if that were true, it would result in conflict(!) because the whole purpose of Arthur’s suit is to destroy Superianwhich would be even more dramatic ifusing Arthur to destroy Superian is all part of The Terror’s plan.
Alexa: play ominous music…

There is nothing to see in this spoiler box. G’wan…shoo.

You clearly have the brains - I have the everything else.

Oh, one more gratuitous speculation following on from the above. Walter (the stepdad with the foot obsession) works for AEGIS and is there to keep an eye on the family and Arthur in particular. He did say he knew a lot about superheroes.

Apparently the full season is 12 episodes, we’re just getting the back half of the season later on.

“Is that Derek? I.T. Derek?”

I laughed my ass off.

And I’m still occasionally humming along to Duh… Duh… Duh… Duh… Dangerboat.

“You killed him!”
“Did I?” <checks coat> “Nope! Platypus venom!”

I’m not sure what it is, but the way Jackie Earle Haley says, “Did I?” and looks in his coat kills me.

I watched the pilot last summer and have now watched all 6 episodes.

I love the casting, but think it is incredibly flat and unfunny(and uninteresting).

A total mishit for me and I think I am the target audience for this kind of show.
