Pop music is exactly what its called, “popular music” at the time it was produced. After a hot “pop” album’s release, it usually flies up the charts, luckily hangs around for a several months (excluding the pop icons Michael Jackson and Madonna) and then “BANG” itd dies, to hardly, if ever be heard from again. At least until the industry starts pumping out the next novel $24 a CD audio fad all over again, restarting the depressing (non-recyclable) cycle. I don’t think that there are many “pop” albums on anyone’s top 100 albums of all time.

Not too far back in the day, these top ten classifications were dominated (and rightly so) by either “Rock” “or “Hard Rock:” albums. The type of CD’s you could leave in your 5-disk changer for 4 months before moving on to another 74 minutes of bass and treble bliss. I’m now ashamed to say that I fear that 10 years from now, while watching “VH1’s Greatest (Hard Rock) Albums of the Past Decade” show, it is sorely going to be missing adequate amounts of talent! Is the entire industry “Rap” to “Rock” going the way of “pop”! I’m not putting down some of the great bands presently keeping hope alive (i.e. Incubus, Chili Peppers etc. etc.) it just seems like we’re far away from getting any new future additions on these lists”. How long until we get some new Zeppelin, Nirvana, Sabbath, Doors, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Alice In Chains, NIN, Motley Crue, old Mettallica, kick ass bands being born? Man, I haven’t bought a CD from a “new band” in quite a long time. I understand that I’m talking about a particular taste of music (thus a particular type of fans) and that music taste is drastically changing but, the way I see it, good music will always be good music and there should always be room for more bands to be playing it!
Am I alone on this or do others see the same fate of this musical renaissance?
Is the entire music industry “Rap” to “Rock” going pop!
