Wow, thanks guys! I’ll definately get one.
Mike thanks! That link was very informitave. But it SEEMS like Georgie’s grill should work. Maybe now I can get back to my old grill skillet. Cast iron, It cooks ass!
I was always skeptical about the fat-reducing claims. Sure, the “fat” runs off when using the GFG, but it’s not as if one would cook a burger in a skillet, place the burger on a bun, and then proceed to pour the fat from the skillet over the burger, now, is it?
My one experience with a GF grill was a crumbly, tasteless grey thing that my grandmother called a hamburger. But that appears to be an anomaly, since everyone else seems to love it.
A friend of mine has been lusting after one of these for ages now, so I decided to get him one this year for Christmas. Although he likes to put together a decent meal, he really isn’t all that crazy about cooking, so I figure he’ll get plenty of use from it.
FWIW, this is the sort of present I prefer to give - one which will actually get used. There’s nothing worse than spending hard-earned money on crap which will just get put in a drawer and forgotten.
I would highly recommend it, and won’t repeat the praises from above.
However, I will not cook fish in it. Not that is comes out bad, but the next mean I cook in it comes out with a fishy taste to it. Well, if you like grilled cheese with fish oil on it, then I guess it is OK.
No matter how good I clean it, that fish smell stays in there for the next meal.
Any tips on cleaning this thing. Obviously, easiest when still hot. I use a wet (not quite soaking wet) sponge, and that seems to work good…the water from the sponge sizzles and makes the grease and crud easy to wipe down into the drip tray. The excess water also just runs right down in there.
To make cleaning the grill easier, put aluminum foil on it first.
Just get a big piece of foil, fold it slightly, and put it on the grill with the fold to the back.
Put the meat on it. When you close the lid foil should cover both the top and bottom grills.
When you’re done, pull out the foil - the grill is almost clean!
The ones with the removable grills are great by the way. I can put my grills in the dishwasher. I hope the George Foreman grills change to this style.
Another yes vote here. I also find I can buy cheaper cuts of meat and with a bit of marinading they come up great. I tend to lay a wet cloth on it when I have finished cooking, close it up and come washing up time after dinner it cleans up a treat.
Great for veggies like eggplant and peppers too.
ooops, maybe I shouldn’t have sold on ebay the one I got as a gift!
Hey, George is so proud of it, he put his NAME on it!
I asked for one of these for Christmas (not a Foreman grill in particular, just a tabletop grill) and I have to know: Can you grill corn-on-the-cob on it? I live grilled corn, but have no grill, so I have to go over to other people’s houses and harrass them to grill me corn when they have cookouts.
lesa, thanks for the tip. I’m going to try the aluminum foil tonight. It’s gotta beat scrubbing the cast iron plates.
All my friends who have one say those things are terrific! As my friend Denise said once at a party: “Hey, we get food with grill marks on it, baby!”
F_X
I hope so, cause that’s what everyone’s getting!
