What are your thoughts, and hopefully your reasoning.
What’s the Law of Attraction?
Which “Law of Attraction”? As seen here, there are several that go by that name.
No, but the rules of acquisition are.
The Law of Attraction essentially states that what you think or feel you draw to you. Such as if you think about money or health, you will draw them to you.
No, that would be magic.
If you take *actions *in an effort to get those things, it might work.
The closest thing I’m aware of is “strange attractors” in chaos theory, but that’s pretty much a common statistical anomaly, if I understand it correctly. Otherwise, no.
thinking about hot Asian guy in the about 35-45 year age range
Considering how much of my teens I spent thinking about boobs, and how often during that time I actually experienced having any in my immediate vicinity, I’m more inclined to believe in a law of repulsion.
How many threads are you going to start asking “What are your thoughts on X?” without offering any context whatsoever?
Seriously, if you want others to participate, consider doing so yourself. Otherwise it gets old really fast.
Do you think it’s true? What are your feelings, impressions, etc. Why don’t you share first, how be?
(Use your words.)
The most immediately understandable “strange attractor” model I know of is the taffy-pulling machine. You have the machine pulling white taffy. You make a little dot of red food-coloring on the taffy. The machine pulls it out into a line. Then it cuts the line and stretches that, over and over. But you end up with perpetuating lines that don’t go away. They reinforce, and so, at the end of the day, instead of just an amorphous pink mass of taffy, you still see lines of red.
I know a couple other intriguing examples. One of the most fun – and trivial to program on a home computer – is the Serpienski Triangle. Page down a little to the part where it says, “Or More Simply:”
Chaos Theory merges so wonderfully into fractal math! Wonderfully fun stuff!
(I’m betting you were already familiar with both of these examples!)
As I touched on in the OP’s other, related, yet also content-free thread, the “Law” pure hokum, and would be trivially easy to prove experimentally if it worked.
OK, here’s my anecdote.
Back in the early days of the lottery I knew a couple who won $10 million – a $50K payout for 20 years. They bought a big house, expensive cars and took lots of vacations overseas. They actively believed in the law of attraction and joined the right clubs, hung out with various rich people doing rich things, their idea being if you feel rich and act rich, you will become rich.
It didn’t work for them. After 20 years the annual payout ended and they were back where they started. Worse actually, because they hadn’t invested or saved for retirement and they have with a big house they can’t really afford now and will end up selling.
Of course one story doesn’t prove anything. But if two people actively trying to “draw” money to themselves can blow through $10 million and not get any richer, I think it would be damned hard to do it with a middle-class income and lifestyle.
Math nitpick… is that $500K a year? Was it a $1 million win? Or did you mean approx $50K a month?
Why I ask: The law of attraction is very important to know exists if you are to accomplish anything: If it exists and you don’t follow the rules then you will likely not get what you want. I don’t necessarily dismiss things outright even if they sound ‘out there’.
Someone did tests on water writing words on water containers and looked at the results. Water which got wholesome words when you looked at them under a microscope had formed snowflake like crystals, those with unwholesome words turned into negative shapes. There was a study done in Washington DC to see if a very large group of meditators could regularly get togeather for meditation sessions and lower crime. DC was considered the murder capital of the world or something like that according to the place I saw this. Crime was lowered something like 20 percent. There are MANY who believe in the LOA and swear by it, which to me is an important factor. Also quantum theory seems to support the ideas somewhat.
So as for what I think about it, some of the mechanisms are legit, but as far as the whole thing goes, I can’t say I know for certain if it works like some people think (our mind LITERALLY IN ITSELF sends out some magnetic signal to the thing you are trying to attract.) I say legit because without going into a lot of detail, things like thinking about what you want can bring more desire --> motivation -->attainment. Psychological? Seems to be so. Metaphysical? Yet to know.
So I’m looking for scientific answers (that I can comprehend) about why you think or don’t think it’s some sort of real magnetic phenomenon or not.

This one too. Cite?
It’s like newspaper horoscopes or Nostradamus’s predictions. Or maybe a million monkeys at a million typewriters. If enough people wish for enough things (and some of them probably even take actions to bring them about), someone is going to get what they wished for.
It wasn’t a study, it was a “prayer-in” back in 1993 by the disciples of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and they hoped to reduce crime by 20 per cent. [Here is a link](disciples of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi).
By the way, no, it didn’t reduce crime rates at all.
ETA: I’m one of the worst in the world at Google searches. If I can find this in less than one minute of inexpert searching, then you ought to have found it first, before posting in error. This isn’t like finding something difficult of tricky. This was easy.
What the hell is a “negative shape” for a water crystal?
