I just happen to stumble upon this website while researching a paper. I was suprised to see an article titled “Is the lost city of Atlantis at the bottom of a lake in North Dakota”. I grew up in North Dakota so I thought I’d read it. I found it quite interesting, however I have never hear of lake Neptune. I also wanted to add that there are actually a few underwater cities in North Dakota. When the Missouri River was damed up it actually flooded a few small towns. These towns are now at the bottom of Lake Sacacawea. I also wanted to say that because of the low water levels in North Dakota you can now actualy see the towns emerging from the water. So if anyone every happens to be flying around Garrison, ND you might see something pretty cool.
Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Boards, N. Dak., we’re glad to have you with us. I myself spent a week in North Dakota one night.
When you start a thread, it’s helpful to other readers to provide a link to the Column you’re talking about. Keeps us all on the same page and saves lots of searching time. In this case, it was Is the lost city of Atlantis at the bottom of a lake in North Dakota?
No biggie, you’ll know for next time. As I say, welcome!
Welcome, ** N. Dak.** !
Glad you’re here!
Nice note about the submerged towns, we have a few here in Tennessee too, circa the 30’s.
Not far from me is (was) Old Boonton, New Jersey.
Waitaminnit … they have Internet access in North Dakota now?
Oh, wait-N. Dak. just said he grew up there. Obviously, he’s moved to someplace with civilization and can now post on message boards … Sorry-I was just confuzzled for a second there.
I still think Atlantis is Ohio. That’s more likely then a lake in North Dakota…
