In Woody allen’s hilarious film (“SLEEPER”), the hero impersonates a robot, and gets pulled into a machine resembling a phone booth. This machine enablesone to ahve a long-duration, high-quality orgasm (without, apparently, sexula contact with a female). Is such a machine possible? Could we (by means of MRI scanning) locate the sexualpleasure center of the brain, and stimulate it artificially (to induce an orgasm)?
Seems like such an invention wouldbe a real hit…I think I’llhave to apply myself to invent one?
Can we make such a machine?
Take a look at US patent 6,169,924.
New Scientist describes the device in the article: Push-button pleasure -Electronic implants may help women who cannot orgasm any other way.
Perhaps someday Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation will replace the wires and electrodes described above and allow anyone to achieve orgasm at the push of a button with a simple device that’s inexpensive enough to give as a Christmas present.
We’re only a hop skip and a jump away frpm Judge Dread.
Yep! I have no sites, but I remember in my psychology texts some experiments they did where the wired electrodes to the “pleasure center” of mices’ brains, and allowed them to push a lever to recieve a shock. The mice stayed up day and night pushing the lever, ignoring food, water, or sleep, until they eventually withered away and died.
Sounds fun to me!
Yay! Tasps.
The mods would kill me for the hijack so…
My post is at the bottom of page 5
This was tried in the 1970’s. It was a disaster – it worked perfectly.
I don’t think I can find a cite. I distinctly remember reading about it in a book on controversial neurosurgery.
There was a movie, the title of which escapes me, that dealt with virtual reality. A character put on the helmut or whatever was involved, and was watching another person having sex with a woman. At the moment the male was having an ejaculation, the ‘watcher’ began to rapidly repeat the scene, over and over. He was found later on in a completely zonked out state, having to be dragged out of the room and given medical care. Anyone familiar with how real a virtual reality session can be?
I’m convinced consequence-free immediate gratification is the impetus behind a whole lot of mankind’s innovations. Probably some cave drawings were the first pornography, and all the way to today’s research into virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Someday, we’ll be able to have the experience of a total sexual encounter with anybody we can imagine. Who could resist that? Where’s the end of the line?
Now that’s what I call progress, baby!
Not me!
I guess Neidhartfirst, so “second!”
This sounds like Brainstorm, starring Christopher Walken and Natalie Wood.

It may be that a state of bliss will be the normal state of future humankind.

A note of caution; once hedonistic stimulation can be controlled at will, this will be the perfect way for the robots to control us without pain or fear…
The ultimate tyranny.
