Is the Social Justice Movement Racist? (Content note: Mentions of rape)

Okay. jsgoddess already addressed both points, but I’ll reiterate them.

  1. A rhyme talking about sex in raunchy and objectifying terms is NOT the same as a rhyme talking about committing specific violence against a specific woman who has already been the object of that sort of violence. The latter is far more disturbing, and it’s bizarre that you’d suggest otherwise.
  2. As I linked to above, Lil Wayne comes in for plenty of criticism. Of course that particular song might not have, but overall there’s no dearth of criticism of Lil Wayne for his ugly lyrics.

And a third point: can you find anyone who condemns Eminem but defends Lil Wayne? Your thesis would predict the existence of such people in significant numbers.

Of course we can read. That’s why we all read your OP - including the part where you said this:

Those are your words, very first paragraph, announcing that your gut instinct tells you that the social justice movement is racist. Of course, you’re Just Asking Questions. I suppose it’s another of those “coincidences” that Just Asking Questions is a laughably transparent bit of dishonest argument.

The “integrity of your argument” is the flatulence of your gut microflora. One of us is bringing citations in this thread and one of us isn’t. Everyone here can see who that is.

Tell you what - to make Left Hand’s challenge a little narrower, see if you can find an instance of Anita Sarkeesian or Jessica Valenti defending Eminem but condemning Lil’ Wayne. They’re the people who you chose for your example of racism. Start with them.

I think you mean the opposite, right?

Right. The OP is saying that the social justice types condemn Eminem and ignore or defend Lil Wayne because they hold white people to a higher standard, which makes the social justice types racist.

Right, Right … no, LEFT! LEFT!

The problem with that is that the only people calling the social justice movement racist or sexist are the people who refer to them as “social justice warriors.” Without those priors, your question seems nonsensical. Of course people who hate racism would not be promoting racism.

Also, in defense of those who use the term SJW, it originally was not supposed to mean anyone who fights for social justice. The term refers to those who constantly go around turning everything into a social justice issue, getting wildly angry at even the slightest hint. I’m talking the type of person who would say we are supporting the patriarcy becasue Cecil Adams is a man and not a woman. And because of that they would flame out on this board.

Of course, such a term is easily used as a form of vilification of those with legitimate social justice concerns. In fact, it may have been coined for such a circumstance. But the concept does describe someone who exists.

One of the issues I point out to GamerGate is that they are pretty much full of SJWs. (The other is that Anita Sarkesian is only big in game journalism due to the Streisand Effect. I so want to make an image Macro that has Anita Sarkesian saying “Your Hate Only Makes Me Stronger!”)
