This thread is along the lines of a JFK/Oswald/CIA kind of thing. I’m not trying to stir peoples emotions or create a form of patriotic debate here, just throwing in a possibility. I realise this could be a sensitive subject but hope you can keep an open mind.
Would a government turn on the people of their country and murder them if the result of their actions was for the greater good of the country?
If the US government was behind these terrorist attacks what could their motive be?
What GOOD for the country and it’s people could actually come of this disaster if the above case were true?
Remember this is the US government we are talking about and if movies have taught us anything it’s that they can pretty much fabricate ANYTHING including evidence, suspects, tape recordings, photographs, eyewitness accounts etc. The only thing they cannot fabricate is the event itself. In other words it has to be ‘real’ for people to see it and experience it.
If the US government couldn’t keep the president getting a knob shine under wraps, how do you think they could orchestrate something of this magnitude and keep it quiet?
The logic in support of this is virtually the same as the logic arguing about aliens in Area 51.
Using “if movies have taught us anything” as a factual basis for your claim is rather weak.
This is almost certainly a Great Debate, so watch for the move. I don’t see what purpose the US would have in doing something like that, except for some vague “we have to rally the troops against a common enemy” kind of thing. Doesn’t sound very realistic, though.
What do you think? That the conspiracy didn’t work so well on bombing Pearl Harbor so the Prez’s successors in office waited over 50 years to do something even more shocking?
This is certainly not a Great Debate. It’s a paranoid fantasy to which the only really appropriate responses belong in The BBQ Pit.
Boy, if I had known I’d cause such an uproar I’d have steered clear of this topic altogether. Sometimes it makes me wonder if some of the members here have anything to offer at all, or do they sit around waiting for someone to shoot down, add 1 to their ‘posts’ count, and generally feel good about themselves for doing so.
I like this board but sometimes you treat people like shit for no reason. I may not come here very often or comment on many posts but I’m pretty sure I can offer more intelligent comment than a personal attack on someone’s nickname.
This post is a hypothetical situation based on current events. Perhaps emotions are running a little high at the moment for people to consider possibilities other than what is being proposed by the media.
Apologies to all and if you feel the need to flame me then go ahead (I don’t read those posts anyway so it makes no difference to me!)
Mods - you may as well remove this thread, it’s going nowhere and I don’t plan on returning to read the posts anyway.
Jackas, alright… why don’t you put forth specific bits instead of making such a broad statement. Present EVIDENCE and then we’ll talk about it. But to hypothesize based on nothing is hurtful to this already wounded country.
Could it be that the Israelis, with all their intelligence savvy, knew beforehand about this plot but said nothing so as to ensure US support for their cause? I’m reading a lot of quotes from Israelis along the lines of, “Now the US knows what we’ve been going through, and they will join us in taking up arms against this common enemy.”
I know there’s no evidence to support this, but I must say that I find it hard to believe that NOBODY knew about this happening. If it did take months or years to plan and execute, it would seem to me that somewhere information would have leaked, a communique would’ve been intercepted, someone would have found out about it.
Even if not the Israelis, how about the Saudis, the Egyptians, or the governments of other countries in the region that we call “friends”? Were ALL of them ignorant of the plot?
BTW, I posted this with the mindset that this thread is not to be taken too seriously given the topic. I’m just throwing out the scraps of paper that occupy the dustier corners of my mind.
jackas, you’re getting kicked around because the premise of your question is disgusting. If we’ve learned anything from the movies, its that fiction has few boundaries. This country isn’t a big supporter of terrorism - we wouldn’t shed a tear if our government eradicated a few terrorists.
Bomzaway, given later post, I’ll tone down the reply. But, consider the position of Israel. They live in a neighborhood that doesn’t like them. They’ve had to prove in the past that they can, however, kick the teeth in of all their neighbors. If I understand recent history, the US has been a consistent supporter of Israel. I can’t see that they would risk something this horrific.
Remember, this is not the first terrorist attack on America. For all the recent words about the US now being a part of world terrorism, we’ve been a part of it since the '80’s, at least. I have some recollection of a bomb in Beirut, of more bombs in African embassies, and of bombs throughout the world at various spots where the US military congregates. We’ve been in this for a long time. Fortunately for us, it was at a lesser magnitude than our allies. Some sick bastard ratched the conflict up, but they drew us into this conflict decades ago. I’m disturbed and amazed at the premise that our own nation would do this to us, or that our allies would not lift a finger to prevent it. I daresay other posters have felt the same, and simply wrote it in a shorthand of well-deserved abuse.
As for me, I’m off to do a “1 More Post”[sup]TM[/sup] dance.
Say as long as we’re working in hypotheticals, imagine if our government did this:
Director of the CIA, William Casey, approaches ex-Director of CIA and current Vice President of the United States, George Bush, with the name of a vulnerable depository, the Banco Nacional de Panamá. Vice President Bush then arranges for a short term loan of $8 billion. Bush arranges for $4 billion to go to Iran to purchase CIA-counterfeited bills and $4 billion to go to Nana Debusia (grandson of Guyana’s first democratic leader and owner of many U.S. and foreign banks) to be laundered into several private accounts. Bush commissions Oliver North to oversee the Iranian connection. North delivers $4 billion in U.S. currency to a home of state-sponsored terrorism, say, Iran. Iran gives North $8 billion in CIA-counterfeited bills in exchange for the $4 billion in good U.S. currency. North then delivers the $8 billion in CIA-counterfeited bills back to the Banco Nacional de Panamá. The loan transaction is now complete. There is $8 billion in CIA-counterfeited bills in the reserve vaults of the Banco Nacional de Panamá, there is $4 billion in authentic U.S. currency in the hands of the Iranians, and there is $4 billion in good currency with CIA launderer Nana Debusia. North sells the Iranians military hardware and parts for the amount of $4 billion and diverts a portion of the proceeds to the Contras of Nicaragua. Nana Debusia, in the meantime , is laundering the deposits of $4 billion through various banks, including the Vatican’s bank in Italy. After several successful banking transactions, Debusia presents $3.8 billion in the sound deposits to numbered accounts in various locations. When the funding operation is complete, there is $4 billion in CIA accounts to be utilized for covert and black operations; there is $3.8 billion in private numbered accounts controlled by George Bush and William Casey. Pablo Escobar (the primary depositor at Banco)is dead to ensuring no one will withdraw the CIA-counterfeited bills. General Noriega is in U.S. federal prison and under constant U.S. guard to ensure his silence, and William Casey is dead, leaving $3.8 billion in good U.S. currency in the control of George Bush.
Gee, what if our government were crazy enough to do that?
Unfortunately, PatronAnejo, we can play this game all day. Just imagine our government decided not to treat men with syphillis just to see what would happen. Imagine our government would allow some humans to be treated as property. Just imagine that humans aren’t very nice to humans.
It’s still disgusting to suggest that the government of the US has declared war on the people of the US, and began such a war with a sneak attack.
Unfortunately, the reason we can play this game all day, Robb is because there are too many examples of times when our government turned upon its own people.
I wish it were inconceivable that our President’s family members and associates would allow terroristic activities to proceed if said activities furthered the Bush agenda. Unfortunately, the October Surprise demonstrates all too vividly that such circumstances are not only inconceivable, they are part of our recent history.
