Regarding the recent assassination attempt – I would have assumed there’s a fence around the Trump golf course where the incident occurred. Is there a fence? If so, what kind (solid concrete vs chain link)? How high? If not, why not? How is the Secret Service supposed to protect someone in an open field if there isn’t even a fence?
The radio story I heard this morning (NPR National) pointed out that the golf course is difficult to secure since (specifically) it is not fenced by more than hedges and fronted by a lot of Interstate.
Chain link fence, as shown in a couple of photos by the police after the event. It’s shown in the CBC article, but you have to scroll down a long ways to see it. The guy left his gear and rifle behind.
Yes, you can see the chain link fence in Google Streetview; but it disappears ithrough the bushes in some spots, and does not appear to be more than 5 feet high. At one point There’s Georgia Ave. off Gregory Rd, and the former is a simple gravel road along the outside of the fence/shrubbery. It turns a corner and when the Google camera truck was there, the gate in the fence was open.
So not a lot of security. I assume for normal golfers they would report strangers trespassing and club security or local police would deal with them.
But the reports were the Secret Service saw a gun poking through the fence, so presumably the alleged assailant never climbed the fence but hid in the bushes on the other side. And the person who reported his vehicle and license number as he left, the police said he saw him “emerge from the bushes”.
Chain link fence and a big hedge plus trees are pretty much the common golf course edging all over FL. I’m looking at a course like that right now as I’m typing.
The course where this occurred was not designed as a fortress for a controversial politician.
Trump’s golfing outings haven’t been especially secure for years.
