I’ve called my doctor, but I probably won’t be able to get in until Monday. I’ve had this before and I think it might be one of my stealth sinus infections, but it could just be allergies - at any rate, my stummy hurts, and it’s probably because of the nasty stuff dripping into it from my nose and related nose-parts.
Can anybody suggest something over the counter to deal with it temporarily? Tums don’t touch it. It makes it really hard to run, and this morning I was sure I was going to throw up when I got out of the shower, and is there anything more awful than throwing up when you’re still dripping wet? Last time I had one of those sinus infections my doctor gave me samples of some prescription stomach stuff, which helped until the antibiotics took hold. Of course, even if I do get in on Monday there’s a whole weekend between then and now, and it might just be allergies anyway. So what do you guys use?
One of my favorite tummy pain remedies is peppermint. Either mint tea or nibbling a few mint leaves or putting 1 drop of peppermint essential oil in a quart or two of water (shake well each time you drink).
If you don’t have mint, basil works very well, too.
Ginger, of course, is a classic, but I find it too hot for my stomach.
IANAD but my friend’s doctor told him to take GAS-EX. The reason was that one of the key ingredients was glycerin. Glycerin supposedly reacts with the mucus you’ve swallowed, rendering it less “distressing”.
Check the ingredients list because they’re a re varying formulas of GAS-EX. You want the one with glycerin. If it has mint as well, its a bonus.
Oh, another thought. If you’re producing a LOT of post-nasal drip, it might be diluting your stomach acid, making it harder for your stomach to digest your food. The food then sits there too long, fermenting a little, and causes upset. Try a swig of pickle juice, lemon juice or vinegar. If it makes you feel better, you could be hypoacidic in your stomach right now.
If it makes you throw up…uh, sorry. But I bet it won’t.
Well, if anybody’s interested, the Gas-X with glycerin is the soft-thingeys. It doesn’t work. Candy canes don’t work. All I had access to was a drugstore so I couldn’t score any pickle juice, but I will certainly try when I get home, because this is miserable. Strong tea, however, didn’t work. Of course, the caffeine in the tea and sugar in the candy cane may have cancelled out the good qualities.
And I keep having burps I can’t burp - I assume because I keep swallowing air along with the sinus nasties. Urrrrgh.
The best I can come up with is treating the source - have you tried a decongestant like the real pseudophed? I also read that musenex is good at thinning the secretions in your nose, too.
I can sympathize with you Zsofia-I’ve had the same problem for several years now. I’ll be watching this thread to see if anyone else has info that might help.
