Is There a Name for this 50's-Era Design

Look at this picture and take note of the vaguely boomerang-shaped glyph behind the TV (ignore the clock).

This seemed to be pretty prominent in the 1950’s - or at least, Disney thinks it was, as variations of that design were all over the tables at the 50’s Prime Time Café restaurant.

Does the design have a name?

Boomerang Channel uses a similar shape for their “B”. I don’t know the name of the style, however.

You have a couple of '50’s things going on there.
First is the boomerang design noted by AWB. You also have a ball clock (also known as an atomic clock or molecular clock).
Here’s a ball clock for sale on ebay:

Googie.

Here’s a lot more Googie architecture. One of the pleasures of living in west L.A. is that a fair number of original googie buildings are still standing.

Yes, but they’re diminishing as developers buy them out and put up more and more strip malls and condos. I much prefer them to dingbats, which were the scourge of fifties SoCal.

You must know the old Bob’s Big Boy on Wilshire that got renamed into “Coogie’s” then. Every time I pass by I think “it should be Googie’s, dammit!”

Any images of Googie houses?

I just realized: one of the grade schools I attended was Googie!

It got torn down, later. :frowning:
