Is there a name for this particular form of double post?

Every so often you see someone double-post, but you can tell that the poster thought the first post didn’t go through, because the second post has the same content but slightly different wording. I find this very embarrassing because it sort of exposes the editorial process to the light of day. One’s struggles to choose the right words are open for all to see, defeating efforts to post with that certain contrived informality, kind of like guys who carefully don their baseball caps backwards in an intentional effort to appear playful and boyish to women.

Is there a name for this?

Ever notice a double post where the second post has the same content as the first one, but with slightly different, usually briefer wording, because the poster has had longer to organize his thoughts? It always embarrasses me because it exposes the editorial process, kind of like being caught while getting dressed.

You’re kidding me, right?

I think he has a real question. But is trying to be IRONIC! Like me saying,“Erictelevision hates it when people refer to themselves in the 3rd person.”

You’re kidding me, right?

I guess you could just call it a “repost”. And if your second post really is better and funnier than the unintentional original post, you could call it a “witty repost”.

Just my 2c worth …

In reality, it is only one single post, but the staff has accidentally let the Siamese Hamsters™ get at the controls again.

I’d just call it slow editing and slow refresh rate.

Maybe if there was a song, it’d be “Freeze Frame”

What a wonderful opportunity! Henceforth, this phenomenon shall be known as the hyperelastic effect.

I’ve done that before, Hyperelastic. Sometimes, when the boards are slow, you hit submit and it just sits there. I’ve had occasion where I then wanted to change something, so I hit stop ([esc]… I use Netscape) Then make the change and submit again. ==> Double post, but different. I realized that when you hit submit the first time, the post goes thru almost immediately. What you’re waiting for is the page to reload. Did that make sense?

I just paste the url into a new browser window then I can see if my post went through. 90% of the time it did & thats when I still have the old page staring me in the face. ‘Repost’ or ‘Resubmit’?
