Seems with all the custom pharmacology out there, there’d be a way to trigger an orgasm on demand. What a high that would be - I always feel great after one - seems like there’d be a huge market for this.
I’ve never heard of one so I’m assuming there isn’t.
Granted its TV, but there was an episode recently claiming a designer drug that did just that making a woman go all “When Harry met Sally” in a NYC deli.
I was reading about a drug that was developed for something else, that had spontaneous orgasm as a possible side effect. They were having trouble finding women to do a follow-up study on it, believe it or not. I will search for the info when I am at home.
Actually, no. This was mental fallout from an IMHO thread about anti-depressants. I started to think about the sexual side-effects of those and then wondered if there was a drug with a reverse sexual side-effect.
You would think that whatever the drug was supposed to treat would become the side-effect, when you’ve got something like that at your fingertips (pun intended).
Sounds like something that would be too easily abused.
I am assuming that having too many orgasms is going to be rough on the body.
There are a lot of powerful things floating around the brain and the blood system during an orgasm, and thats why the sensation is a strong one.
Walking around with a pocket inhaler (the orgasmitron 2000! Now available without a presricption!) for those times your feeling a little bored sounds a tad risky.
Ever hear of crack? You get a pretty damn good high. I think the crack term is ‘bell-ringer’ when you take a hit that overwhelms you. Not exactly the same as an orgasmic high but very close and somewhat different in intensity.
Because you could use it anywhere. Just like the previous posting suggests: you could have an orgasm on the bus, in your cube at work, etc. Imaging having a dull day at work, pulling out the orgasmatron and having a moment all to yourself.
Mopping up for the guys would be an ongoing issue…
As for crack, I guess I have no idea what it’s like. If it’s like an orgasm, I guess I know why it’s addictive.
Well, I don’t know if a drug would have its own side effects. But masturbating once an hour twelve times a day doesn’t sound too risky. I’m sure there are people who have orgasmed that often. You’d probably get sore, but what point does it become too much? I’ve had, at times, between ten and twenty orgasms in a small period with no ill effects. I’m just wondering, when are there “too many” orgasms? It would have to be way more than twelve, I’m sure.
It’s been tried, most famously by the Nazis. In one of their medical experimentation camps, male prisoners were forced to masturbate, under inspection, dozens of times per day for days on end. No ill effects were observed.
Regrettably I’m not able to offer a detailed citation as my copy of the book in which I read this is on another continent. In case anyone else wants to look it up, it’s called Good Health and was published (IIRC) in the 1970s. If you look up masturbation in the index and go to the indicated page, you’ll find a description of the experiment I described, along with references to the original post-WWII sources.
You may be thinking of Clomipramine, of which one side effect was that patients would have spontaneous orgasm when they yawned. (The men took to wearing condoms around all the time.)
Around 1978, the National Lampoon’s ‘True’ section published a brief account of a drug being researched at the time. I can’t recall the drug’s intended purpose, but a side effect was that some subjects would experience an orgasm when they yawned. The humorous part was two quotes from subjects: one was from a man who called this side effect a “nuisance”. Another was from a woman who asked where she could obtain more of the drug.
I would have put this in the ‘urban myth’ category until an article appeared around 1996 in the Washington Post. It claimed that this drug did exist. I can’t recall much about the article, but it claimed that the side effect only existed for around 20% of subjects tested.
Aside from the orgasm-through-yawning side-effect of some drugs, I wonder how an orgasm-inducing drug would work, anyway. One pill per orgasm? Or a long-term high (oh wait, that already exists. It’s called MDMA) I imagine it would have to be a sort of muscle relaxant that simply makes the user more apt to orgasm through stimulation, which couldn’t be any worse than Viagra.
I dunno, I like orgasms a much as the next guy, but I’m suspect about such drugs and I would never take them recreationally. I mean, what would the drug really be doing to your body while you are enjoying the side effects.
To me, it sounds like a lot of chemical “monkey business” to set up yawn-induced orgasms.
[joke] Lady get on a bus and sits next to a man. After a moment he sneezes, reaches for a tissue, then unzips his pants and cleans up his unit with the tissue.
The lady is aghast and tells him she is going to tell the bus driver.
Wait he says, you don’t understand. I have a medical condition that makes me orgasm every time I sneeze.
Oh, she replies, I didn’t know that. Are you taking anything for it?
Yes, I am. Pepper.

Thank you, don’t forget to tip the waiters.
