Is there any major field of study where we do not have at least one expert?

I don’t get it Willl someone please explain.

He’s a character played by Steven Seagal.
From Wiki.

While we have a number of people who are knowledgeable about religion, are there any members of the clergy who post here?

I’m often interviewed by the media wen they need an expert in the field of study of national anthems, primarily because there are very few of us who are nerdy enough to make that their passion of study (and I’m pretty sure I know all the rest of them). I have no degrees in the subject, mainly because there aren’t any to be had (though I would love to start my own, if I knew how and had the money), but my website is one of the most used resources on national anthems information, which is how the media usually finds out about me.

That said, I’m curious whether we have any experts in Celtic history or Celtic/Gaelic languages.

I was half wondering if that was sarcastic (because “Celtic” was specifically chosen) as I remember from previous threads Dr. Drake is an expert in that, when I needed precise translation work done on the Breton anthem, Dr. Drake was the person I turned to first to help. Other languages, I don’t know of any experts, but I’m certain of Dr. Drake’s specialty.

Friar Ted comes to mind first (if a friar counts) but I know there are others.

Not sarcastic at all. I either missed those threads or forgot about them. My memory isn’t what it used to be. Or at least it isn’t as good as I think it used to be.

As in linear programming for say least cost ration formulation, logistics planning and inventory management, add a bit of stochastic programming. Yeah, done a bit. Not sure of the “expert” qualification.

Friar Ted’s an actual friar? I didn’t know that.

Jim Beaver posted a column here and is still signed up but I don’t remember him ever posting in a thread.

Lots, depending on how you define clergy. Legally ordained minister here, one of dozens on the Dope. Most of us not through major mainstream religions, but through legally incorporated tax-exempt churches.

There’s at least five frequent posters who currently work in the oil industry that I know of.

I’m no expert, but I can do that.

That’s operations, not optimization. Historically the fields were very closely related, but they’re definitely separate disciplines.

I guess that is me. There is at least one other former SEC diver who posts here and he was several levels better than I was.

Didn’t matt_mcl get elected in Canada?

My degrees are in economics and I’ve done linear programming to optimize retail shelf space for manufacturers based on the demographics surrounding a particular outlet. These days I’m doing predictive modeling using LOGIT regression. Yes, I’m a tragic nerd.

S.M. Stirling has an account here. I don’t believe he posts very often though.

ETA: I just looked, he’s only posted eight times, all in threads related to his books.

We appear to be missing an asbestos removal expert.

Having seen how he posts elsewhere, this is a good thing.

I don’t believe we have any professional archivists. Shame, too, as I think the field is fascinating.
