Matt certainly ran for office, but was never elected.

Roughnecks?

I’m probably one of those five, although I did actually roughneck onshore triples while getting a couple of petroleum degrees.

We appear to be missing an asbestos removal expert.
[/QUOTE]
A couple of years designing abatement plans in the 80s.
Although I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, I am certified for asbestos abatement.
I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, either, but I am an environmental engineer and a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). I’m also current in my 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training, which allows me to be present on a site with asbestos abatement being conducted, but I am not trained to do the work myself.
I’ve been involved in several asbestos abatement projects (including the removal of asbestos-containing building siding, roof shingles, and pipe lagging/insulation). However, the extent of my involvement was to prepare plans and specifications for the work, select a licensed asbestos abatement contractor to do the actual work, and ensure that all applicable regulations were followed.
He’s not a regular poster, but Jim Beaver has posted several times. If I remember correctly, it was about the life of George Reeves.
Damn you, beat me to it.

Yes, he is a professional magician and a noted expert in the field.

Astronauts?

Not that I know of, but some experts on various elements of space travel and space hardware, including spacewalk tool development. Well, expert might be strong, but certainly did that for several years.
I know very little about magic in general, and I have only read a handful of ianzin’s posts, but it is now clear to me that he is a respected, popular, and successful professional entertainer.
Looks like the SDMB has that base nicely covered as well.

Define “optimization”.
I don’t want to speak for the entire field, but that is my specialty.
I’m THE expert on the history of the hockey organ, so I have at least my one claim to fame if there’s ever a SDMB cocktail party.
Not so much anymore, but I did stand-up comedy for about 6 years, and supported myself solely through that venue. In fact, when I first started posting in this board, that’s what I did. I attended several Dopefests, and many people here met me under that occupation.
I then took a break from the board for a few years, so I don’t even know how many “old timers” remember me.
About 4 years ago, I gave it up, and became an EMT. While I know we have doctors who post here (like Qadgop), I’m unsure if we have any other EMTs, paramedics, or the like. I don’t claim to be an expert, but I’m always happy to chime in with either procedural (like whether ambulances are dispatched along with SWAT teams - which came up in a thread a few weeks to a month ago), or medical information (up to the limits of my certifications).
Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
Pretty sure St. Urho is an EMT.
I’ve only toured a mine once. But I’m related to the mine safety expert, and could get you an excellent answer if needed.
And that, I think, is the real answer here. If we don’t know, we know someone who does. . .
I believe St. Urho is a paramedic, actually.

I was once, long ago, certified as an EMT and volunteered for the ambulance service in the small town where I grew up. Seeing as that was more than 25 years ago, I hardly qualify as an expert. But I did do it.
I think Vunderbob is an aerospace engineer, for whoever asked about astronauts and stuff.
Also, I don’t think Friar Ted is an actual friar; in fact, I’m not even sure he’s Catholic. For some reason I think he’s Episcopalian, but I could be wrong about that. Someone should ask him.
I bet we don’t have any shepherds in our midsts.
Or angels
That does bring one Doper to mind…
Paramedics are EMTs, specifically the certification is EMT-P (as opposed to EMT-B (basic) and EMT-I (intermediate)).
