Is There Any Plant You Can Get High From Smelling It?

I was reading this blog and the guy writes a short bit and it’s quite funny except the end it revolves around sniffing a marijuana plant and getting high, without noticing it.

Now I’m pretty sure you can smell a marijuana plant all you want and you won’t get high, correct? You’d have to burn it to smell or sniff the fumes right?

But if you accept that as so, the story works. But anyway, I got to wondering is there any plant that exists that can get you high just by sniffing it?

Of course there is stuff like cocaine, but you have to turn the plant into cocaine first.

Seems like only a glue or something like that would get you high by smelling the fumes. Since plants don’t give off fumes (or do they? I’m sure someone will correct me shortly), this seems to be you won’t get high by just smelling any plant.

Well, IANAC, but it seems to me that fumes which are psychoactive are that way because they contain a volatile substance which readily evaporates into the surrounding atmosphere. Given that, there’s no reason I can think of why a plant couldn’t give off psychoactive fumes, but I don’t know of any that do.

Perhaps some kind of flower?
