Is this a Canadian thing? (Putting butter on both sides of sandwich bread)

Bizarre. I’m American and I can’t even imagine buttering any part of a cold sandwich. The idea is just completely off my radar.

You weirdo.

I don’t put any of those on my bread, but as I said in the post you quoted, if I was putting any kind of spreads in a sandwhich I would put spreads on both pieces of bread. I, in the post you quoted, spoke of putting PB on one piece and Jello on the other.

IOW, go back and read the post you quoted, but this time completely. Try using your finger.

Everyone knows the Germans lost two world wars due to inferior sandwiches.

Sawdust?

Yes. I’ll butter the bread for a sandwich, and if I’m making a club sandwich, I’ll butter both sides of the inside piece of bread too. So there!

And if the sandwich calls for mayonnaise, I’ll add that too.

Hell yes. In New Zealand no proper sandwich would ever be made without buttering (margarining etc) both inner faces. And thats regardless of the filling. Butter both sides. In the Depression (1929) my parents families ate sandwiches spread with dripping = sheep or cattle fat. Much tastier then it sounds, not bad at all.

And yes in my house and everywhere else that goes for french bread, hamburgers, sausage sammies, and hot dogs (not a big seller here).

Just to cross the cultural divide, sausage sammies are one slice of bread curled around a sausage with tomato sauce, fried onions, and maybe mild (american) mustard.

This is what I would expect to see if invited to a barbeque. Along with some steak and chicken nibbles.

I shall start another thread arising from this image.
