Sandwich eating poll.

Inspired in part by the revelation that People the west side of the pond generally don’t apply butter or Margarine to a typical sandwich.
How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?

Do you butter it?

Does it have mayo?

Does it have both?

Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?

White or brown?

Add your own question for the next doper.

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?
If there’s meat on a sandwich, I’m usually going to hold it so that any other stuff on there is above the meat.
Do you butter it?
Only grilled cheese.
Does it have mayo?
Depends on the sandwich. If it has meat on it, probably so, but even then, not always.
Does it have both?
I can’t imagine a sandwich with both butter and mayo, no.
Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?
Depends on the sandwich. This is a really vague poll.
White or brown?
I’m white. Did you mean the bread?
Add your own question for the next doper.
Am I being exceptionally dense in thinking these questions are all way vague?

Mmmmm, sammiches!

I hate both mayo and butter with a passion. Mustard all the way, baby, and the spicier the better! I also tend to use wheat bread or wheat pita, although I preferred white, fluffy wonderbread-type stuff all through my childhood. I find baguette breads to be too tough- when you bite into them, the pressure of your teeth trying to break through the crust tends to squeeze out all the innards. If anyone has a trick for avoiding this, I’d be interested to hear it!

If you think that’s bad try eating one of those cream pastry things… two rectangles of pastry sandwiching an inch-thick slab of suggary cream.

As soon as you bite - say goodbye to half of the cream and clean clothes.

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa? I’m an herbivore, but the main ingedient (cheese, veggie burger, etc) is on the bottom.

Do you butter it? No.

Does it have mayo? Uh, sometimes. Probably not on peanut butter and jelly.

Does it have both? No.

Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread? Depends on the sandwich. I don’t care for bagel sandwiches, but most other breadstuffs are fair game.

White or brown? See above.

Add your own question for the next doper. Why did I just spend five minutes of my life on this? Am I that desperate for human interaction?

ETA: In the case of the PBJ, the jelly goes on top.

Also, sometimes I eat sandwiches with a fork.

An extra credit question>

Side of?

I like a dill pickle or two, pretzels or cottage cheese.

Depends on what it is. Chicken or turkey gets mayo (Hellman’s only - not that chemical crap) and lettuce on top. Pastrami gets mustard only. I’m not fond of cheese on sandwiches. Roast beef gets ketchup and lettuce. Butter - pretty much never.

As for bread, I’m near the Orowheat second hand bread store. I like whole wheat, and new whole grain white, and also onion rolls. Rye for pastrami, of course. I like baguettes when ordering out.

Me no like the poll neither. But I agree with the notes about things depending on the type of sandwich. Turkey=mayo; beef and pork=mustard; butter=never, although I recall loving honey and butter sandwiches when I was a kid. Type of bread depends on mood, but never crappy white bread unless it’s a PBJ or a PBM.

My sandwich eating is a bit different from my sandwich making, in that I normally eat burgers (ham- and cheese- type burgers), subs (heroes, hoagies) and occasionally a club, BLT, PB&J when eating out. I also classify a gyros as a sandwich.

When I make my own, it’s usually with mustard and occasional mayo.

I prefer rye when it’s available, white next, and wheat last unless the wheat is some special kind. The bread we normally have around the house is Oatnut.

A burger must have onion, pickles, tomato, lettuce and American or cheddar cheese. The meat must be at least medium done, never rare, occasionally well done.

Cold cuts make the best home-built sandwiches, but leftover turkey, chicken, roast beef and steak also work well.

BLT is the best toasted bread sandwich, with grilled cheese next. Grilled cheese is the only one I can think of with buttered bread, though.

Novelty sandwiches use cream cheese, cucumber, fruits like pineapple and banana, nuts of various kinds (mostly peanuts and pecans) and unusual greens.

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?
Stuff (pickles, tomatoes) on top, generally. But sometimes I put the tomatoes above the meat and the pickles below, or vice-versa. Born to be wild!

Do you butter it?
 Butter? On a sandwich? What color is the sky in your world?

Does it have mayo?
No, but that’s just because I can’t stand even the smell of mayo (or eggs.) I generally use mustard on sandwiches – unless it’s a fried fish sandwich, then I use ketchup; a burger gets both ketchup and mustard unless I’m in an A-1 Sauce mood.

Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?
White or brown?

When I make my own sandwich it’s always on toasted slices of whole-wheat bread or one of those nine- or twelve-grain breads (of which I cannot name even three of the grains without checking the label).

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?
top to bottom: meat, cheese, lettuce or other green stuff.

Do you butter it?
Yes.

Does it have mayo?
Probably, or mustard or something.

Does it have both?
Probably.

Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?
Sliced bread. It’s the best thing since… um.

White or brown?
Wheat or whole wheat, often toasted or grilled nowadays.

Add your own question for the next doper.
I’m totally justified in killing anyone who refers to sandwiches as “sammiches” or “sammies”, right? Under the "bitch needed killin’ " defense, as recognized in Texas and the South.

I argue that there are only 3 types of Perry Mason endings: the mistaken-identity killing, the yeah-I-killed-him,-and-I’d-kill-him-again-if-I-could killing, and the but-don’t-you-see,-he-needed-killing! killing.

Too bad for some of those that Perry operated out of California, then.

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?
meat, cheese, lettuce, condiment

Do you butter it?
Butter on sandwiches…no. The idea horrifies me in ways I can’t describe. I had no idea anyone did this, anywhere. You learn something every day.

Does it have mayo?
Maybe. I prefer mustard. I might use french dressing instead. These condiments are used alone, not mixed.

Does it have both?
don’t like to mix condiments, except on burgers.

Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?
Ham: whole wheat or oat slices
Tuna salad: baguette or toast slices
Peanut butter (and only peanut butter, like God intended): white toast, whole wheat, or oat slices

Sammies?
No, don’t call them that. It’s dumb. Probably a bad idea to kill people though.

Side?
Cheez-its or chips, maybe carrots.

Add a question:
Why do people like to eat those big pickle spears with sandwiches? Ew.

**How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?
Meat on bottom. Peanut butter on bottom, Tuna (or chicken) salad on bottom
Do you butter it?
No. But my mother butters hers, if that makes you feel better.

Does it have mayo?**
Meat sandwiches will have mayo only in chicken or turkey. Pork, beef or by-products include mayo (on the top. Cheese is NOT allowed to touch mustard) and spicey mustard on the bottom.

Does it have both?
No butter. Ick. Except for grilled cheese and sandwiches on toast, like club sandwiches.
**
Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?**
Sliced bread, usually
**
White or brown?**
It used to be homemade white, now it’s store bought white or rye or pumpernickel. Rye and pump on pork and beef sandwiches only.
What cheeses to we like on our sandwiches?
I like sliced cheddar or Swiss.

Sammies are dumb, pickles spears rock, and cheez-its are the food of the gods.

For all you butter-on-sandwich haters: You know when you go to a restaurant and get a really good sandwich? You know, the ones where you go “how come my sandwiches don’t taste like this at home?”

One word: butter.

Butter, like bacon, makes everything better.

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?

Meat is on the bottom. It tastes wrong the other way.
Do you butter it?

Is it a butter sandwich? Otherwise, hell no!
Does it have mayo?

Sometimes.
Does it have both?

Sometimes neither, never both, never butter only.
Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?

All are viable options.
White or brown?

Either are ok.
Add your own question for the next doper:

Am I the only person out there that puts Sriracha on sandwiches (and most everything else, too) ?

How do you hold it - Meat on top, stuff underneath or vice versa?
I hold it in my hands.

Do you butter it?
Only if the bread is toasted.

Does it have mayo?
It did, but now that I’m counting calories, I’m using mustard…not the tangy yellow hot dog crap, but the Dijon mustard.

Does it have both?
See above

Is it made with slices of bread, baguette, or some other type of bread?
I prefer the heartier breads, rye, pumpernickel, sourdough, etc.

White or brown?
See above

Sides:
Whatever chips we have that tickle my fancy.

What’s your all time favorite homemade sandwich? For me, it’s crisp cooked bacon, cheddar cheese, on either toasted or untoasted Italian bread.

Almost every weekend, I will make myself a fried egg sandwich for breakfast at least one day: a fried egg (break the yolks when frying) with lots of pepper and a slice of American or cheddar cheese, on wheat toast. It is beautiful simplicity.
